From News.com.au:

TWO Qantas passengers died on separate domestic flights to and from Perth today - within about 20 minutes of each other.

The airline confirmed two “medical emergencies” on flight 589 from Sydney to Perth and Flight 642 from Perth to Sydney.

...

Heart attacks have been mentioned as a possible cause but nothing has yet been confirmed.

I'm just waiting for the flood of comments that finally the Red Roo has been caught out and killed two passengers, deeming the airline effectively unsafe for travel (or at least higher risk on most travel risk assessments).

My condolences to the families.

However, poor play to Perthnow. This is not BREAKING NEWS, merely coincidence I would imagine.

Agreed but TBH the inevitable posts railing on about the unfair treatment of QF in the media are just as tiresome on AFF :)

Hope it isn't anybody from the forum. Quite a coincidence, however many times do you hear about a woman in her 30's going into cardiac arrest? I am sure QF did all they could in the circumstances.

As someone who works in the media, I know for a fact on how it works, and yes they do treat QF unfairly most of the time (just as they do with other companies people). It's the way that they operate. So it is justified that people complain about how the media do portray them (and don't provide a balanced article).

One died on Sydney-Perth, the other Perth-Sydney, what are the odds?

Report says one who had a heart attack was just 30 years old. Jeez... :(

QF puts out plenty of their own 'home spun' press releases which is why I find it hard to feel sorry for them when they get a hard time in the press (read: boo hoo :))

Typical Australian media. The standards never change.

But condolences to the family of those involved - a woman in her 30's having a heart attack, what are the odds?

It's rare, but definitely not unheard of. Arrythmia or brain bleed are far more likely cause of sudden death in that age group.

Sucks :(

FFS people have died.......this is a thread where petty issues are irrelevant!

Sorry but that is not relevant at all with this topic.

An old friend died during a flight from the USA a few years back. Most of his family are still devastated and since then 2 of his cousins have also died.

I knew all 3 and the latest one to die in May was a very good friend of mine since 1973. He could never quite get over how his cousin died mid-flight and was not the same since.

Condolences to the families of the 2 passengers who died on the Perth flights.
