Morning all,

I have a few questions for the group that im sure you can help with...

The back ground is that we have 2 families traveling to the USA in September and would like to sit together on the journey (4 adults 4 kids). I am currently SG but from 1 July will have a soft landing to lowly Silver as a result of not enough bum in seat time or a double status points offer from Mr Joyce.

Can the collective help with the following questions:

1. If we book and pay pre-1 July will we obviously get the benefit of better seat allocation using my SG now. My questions is whether the QF IT system is advanced enough to realise my drop to silver closer to the flight date and push us back further in seating?

2. Is it worth both families being on the same booking if we want to sit together, or can we just give Qantas a call and link PNR's?

3. Is there anything I'm missing in my thinking.... well other than trying to travel with kids

Thanks

1. On the A380 SG's only gain row 34 upstairs and 2 or so rows downstairs at the front in the row low-mid 50's over PS - none of these gained rows have any extra benefit (ie. legroom). You haven't got much to lose if you do get bumped back. Not sure about the 747 config.

2. Preferably have all 8 pax on the same PNR. It makes taking advantage of free seat selection much easier as you'll be able to do it online. If you take the two PNRs approach and have them linked, you will find that the other family (that won't have any status pax on their PNR) will not be able to do seat selection online for free. You would need to call for seat selection on their behalf for their PNR.
