Hi All, Sorry im not really sure on the etiquette. I joined some time ago but havent been active.
I am after some advise.
Im a QFF and I am going to fall short of reaching platinum by 150 points.
The year expires end of June.
Im prepared to a points run if needed but wondering if anyone has experience with negotiating with Qantas or any suggested points runs out of Melbourne?

Appreciate your Help and hope my question isnt out of line.

Cheers Tony (Messy)

Hi Tony

Your question is exactly what QFF is about.

I don't think you can 'negotiate' with QF. If you have been Platinum for a few years, they may 'comp' you Plat again, if you are just short. But its never guaranteed.

I don't know about "status runs", as they are called, but you could do a search on the forum "Status run MEL", but it would really be a mater of finding a combination of flights for the lowest cost. For one, look at LST from MEL which I've heard meets that criteria. Hopefully others can chime in with better suggestions.

Also, remember its status credits that determine your status, not points.

Hi Tony,

It doesn't hurt to call Qantas and ask if they will "comp" you Platinum status, but I don't rate your chances highly. If I were in your position I would definitely be looking at doing a status run.

This thread should give you some ideas as a starting point: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....gram/best-status-run-options-quick-35258.html

Off the top of my head, there's a couple of reasonable runs starting in Melbourne. You could do 2x return trips to the Gold Coast via Sydney on a QF Flex ticket for 160 status credits. This would cost around $1,000.

Another option would be to fly from Auckland to Melbourne in First class on the Emirates A380 flight. As long as you book on the Qantas website and book the QF codeshare for this flight, you'll earn 120 status credits. To get to Auckland, you could fly direct on a Flex fare, or perhaps use a creative routing via Sydney on a Sale/Saver ticket to make up the other 30 status credits. The Emirates first class flight can often be had for under NZD900 (around $840), and with a positioning flight to NZ the cost is a little over $1,000 in total. But you also get Platinum, and get to try out an excellent First product. ;) More on that can be found in this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....onal-airfares/qf-ek-trans-tasman-f-69435.html

MEL to AKL on QF or EK (with QF flight number) in J will get you 80 points each way, total 160

Plus a great opportunity to try Qf's new improved trans-Tasman J meal service. And another data point for my endless amenity kit/no amenity kit research.

How many points did you want to spend?

Sydney to Cairns isn't a bad one for an afternoon beer.
