Hi all

Has anyone had success making a QF multi-city booking, where the booking was made using a combination of both (a) a Classic Award redemption; and (b) a standard 'cash' fare?

On the QF website, I can only seem to do one or the other, but not both.

The reason for the multi-city booking is because we want to fly to Europe in J via MEL-LHR or MEL-FCO and pay for that leg in cash, and then return to Australia CDG-MEL or BCN-MEL via redemption of a Classic Award in J. There is poor availability of J awards ex-Australia, but generally OK availability ex-Europe with QR/EK.

When I use the multi-city search tool for MEL-LHR/FCO and then CDG/BCN-MEL, I can only redeem a Classic Award if the entire journey is on Classic Awards. As distinct from, for example, using the standard search tool for a return ticket where our port of arrival and departure in Europe is the same (MEL-CDG-MEL) - in that case, I can book MEL-CDG as a cash fare, and then CDG-MEL as a Classic Award, all on the same ticket.

Any guidance much appreciated. Otherwise I may have to bite the bullet and ring QF FF..

Cheers
Will

I believe this is only possible for simple return journeys. To my knowledge even the call centre can't ticket what you're looking for sadly.

Using multi city I have booked several paid J reward return on Qantas to LAX, not sure if it was a glitch but ticket ok and one trip was completed with no issues recently

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Any reason you can't do 2 separate bookings - 1 cash, 1 points?

Price… The one way cash fare will land in a higher fare bucket.

The standard booking tool (return flight) will allow a mix of award and paid booking where possible (NAN is one example I’ve found that does not like a mix in J…).
