Hi Everyone,

I am booked on CX flights to FRA (MEL-HKG-FRA) on the same PNR as SWMBO. I have a separate booking on BA (FRA-LHR) while SWMBO stays in Germany. Will CX be able to interline only my bag to LHR? I don't know how interlining works in the system and if all PAX on a booking need to have their bags going to the same final destination.

Thanks for your help!

Ok, thanks. I was just asking because CX check-in agents at the J counter are always so keen to interline bags, no matter how many airlines airlines and/or PNRs are involved, and ask 2-3 times what is the final destination of your journey :)
I guess I was asking because I don't know if the way they interline bags is PNR-specific or ticket-number specific.

Not CX but a couple of years back flew QF/BA SYD-LHR-GLA. The LHR-GLA was booked separately and Shrek was staying in LHR, myself and kids directly up to GLA. Was able to have our bags checked through to GLA, his only to LHR

CX now use Amadeus for reservations but not sure if they use Amadeus' checkin system Altea.

It is possible for any airline who uses Altea for check in to add different on carriage against one person only by relating the FRA/LHR segment to one pax only. Note that your CX pnr will still remain unchanged as both of you are still doing the identical itinerary for the CX flights as the BA flight is in a separate pnr.

The airline CSA would need to check in each pax one at a time due to different final destinations so the appropriate bag prints out for each person.

It depends how well trained the staff are where you checkin, particularly if checkin is outsourced to an outside contractor who often have a high turnover of staff.

While it may be possible, if a CSA is unfamiliar with your scenario they might just say 'the computer says no'.

+1

We've done this before, as we regularly leave for Europe on the same flight, and then connect to different destinations (business/family reasons). Don't always have checked-in bags, but when we do we have had no problems doing so on both TG and SQ departures out of BNE. We generally open up the conversation with "Hi. We're travelling together on xx_x but could you check us in separately as I'm going through to xx_ with 1 bag, and Mrs is going to xx_ with no bags."

That way, even if you hit an inexperienced CSA, you've given them a prompt as to what needs to happen.
