It would be uncommercial for them to just limit someone to one credit card their whole lifetime. That would significantly limit their revenue / addressable market. Some churn is useful. They have introduced staggered points reward across multiple years now which I think is helping their cause...

yep can confirm. its fee free now with the wealth package. A bit of a no brainer now and I make reasonable amount of international purchases.

OP, I had the same issue as you. Same situation where the gold looked to continue but it dropped off today. I suspect yours will go to silver immiently.

FWIW, I had a similar experience when I first got my amex platinum card. They suspended my card due to "large" spend until I provided proof of income, etc. No issues since then. Could it be that you didn't provide the details they needed in time and they closed it?

they have pretty much dropped their income requirement. The card benefits have deterioated so much that its not really an exclusive card anymore. Back a few years ago, it was one of the best value cards around but they downgraded heaps of benefits: 1) one free night at hotel 2) 2 airport...

spoke to their customer rep and was told it was an issue and they are trying to resolve by the 7th - I have been trying to convert points over! not sure if thats really the truth or if the relationship is actually over.

thanks - aware of the travel benefits and I do spend a bit of time on the road! I used to be a citibank prestige card holder and thought that was a really good card but they kept cutting their benefits and now won't discount their annual fee ($700) so hence why i'm looking at the Platinum...
