I have reviewed podcast #54 again but found nothing about US carriers. Maybe I missed it.

This shows clearly that despite bad press and all that, this appalling practice is still alive and kicking. Have anyone heard similar things happening to passengers on US carriers (AA, United, Delta)?

To my understanding, this applies to flights from the Europe and the Middle East, and airlines like Qatar and Emirates, who regularly book more seats than they are allowed to carry. Not flights from the US on US carriers.

I have a naive question: if it is so easy to return to Australia from the US, why the government is sending repatriation flights to LAX?
