    Bangkok Advice, please

Well, the Volcano dust problem seems to have past in the UK, but things are going from bad to worse in Bangkok. The Foreign Office now advise against all but essential travel, so I'm hoping for an improvement in the next month or so if I'm to travel. I think if hotels are having to close...

    Bangkok Advice, please

Thanks for this one. I'd also come across the Dusit Thani Chatrium Suites, though they seem a bit more pricey. I was thinking of a Club Room as the internet access is a must and a few snack in the evening are usually enough for me. Advance purchase seems to give a good rate.

    Bangkok Advice, please

Many thanks for all the advice - most welcome. If I arrive at the airport around 1900 for an 0020 flight, will I be able to access the QF/BA lounge for a shower and a beer? (not planning to need to check any baggage).

    Bangkok Advice, please

Provided that the polical situation does not get any worse in Thailand, and that the volcano situation improves in the UK, I am due to visit Bangkok in mid-June to attend a trade show at the BITEC. I'm flying in J on the BA9 / BA10, but have not experienced the new cabins. Being someone who...

    Heathrow T5

I hadn't heard the 20% figure, but was aware that there were insufficient gates for all of BA's needs. In the past, though, I am sure I have arrived at a T3 stand, but had to be bussed to T1. Perhaps it all comes together if you pool the gates for BA, QF and IB

    Heathrow T5

Flew in from STR back in June. Had the same experience and this was BEFORE they had moved all the fights in. Although it's a pain getting onto a bus (especially if it is cold, dark and wet) the time taken to get land side can be less than a long walk / escalator / transit train ride from a...

    Wirelessly printing

Hi, If this is any help, I use LogMeIn Pro, which gives me remote desktop access to my PC at work. While I can't directly print from my laptop when in the car, I can transfer a file to my work PC, switch to remote access and then print the file as if I was sat at my desk (and therefore on any...

    Chances of getting bumped

As a frequent flyer I have generally always been able to pick my seat when I book (at least for long-haul flights). My perception has been that this was "my" seat so long as I presented myself for check-in (either in person or on-line) according to the regulations. I have been asked if I would...

    Best time to book?

Great feedback - many thanks. We'll go with 70/71. Almost begs the question of whether to try to get the same on the way home, but a window seat is less interesting during a long night flight and I can't resist a ride on the A380.

    Best time to book?

Rang QF in London and the reservation is holding for me. The helpful agent offered me 70J/K and 71J/K saying that they were the first seats to go and that she'd sit there with her family. Our daughters are 9 and 3 and I guess the extra space is useful and also they can probably stand at the...

    Best time to book?

Thanks TG, Seen you other post about an imminent price hike, so I think the time has come. Will take a look at Emirates, but the QF timings and journey times are attractive. BP

    Best time to book?

Thanks for the comments. The fact that the A380 schedule has now been released and it looks as if we can return on one using the QF31 means I shall probably crack on and book. I also dug out the booking from 6th July 2006 for our trip last Easter. The comparison reads: July 2006 Fare...

    Best time to book?

We're planning a trip next Easter flying LHR-MEL-SYD-LHR. QF are just selling that far ahead. Prices are around GBP 1000 in Y which equates to about AUD 2000 (the pound's totally stuffed at the moment). Will they go any lower, or is it a case of the earlier you book the lower the price? The way...

    EOS ceases operations

A great pity. EOS was the most luxurious and most expensive of all the business-only airlines (though was really more like First Class). Maxjet was the least luxurious and cheapest. Perhaps Silverjet have got it just right, though it's going to be tough for them with doubts over their prospects...

    LHR T5. Launch Day Blues

I think the problem was that they were relieving passengers of their bags at check-in but failing to load them onto any aircraft. Once the baggage system was at melt-down they had to stop accepting any more. T5 has been back in the news again today as two BA exec left their posts - Ops...

    LHR T5. Launch Day Blues

The lead story on the news bulletins here in the UK has been the, ahem, "challenges" that operating T5 for the first time in anger has presented to BA. The handling of baggage seems to have been the main problem, but supposedly staff were unfamilair with the new systems and were unable to...

    BA Plans for SE Asia

I'd be sad to see BA withdraw from the Australian routes, but I can't say it would come as a great surprise - they've not flown to New Zealand for years, favouring instead codeshare arangements. The revenue generated per hour flown is undoubtedly not as good as on the North Atlantic and the cost...

Delays on 20 December QF5 or connecting AF flight to Paris

There has been a spate of industiral action at AF recently, though this is hardly news in their case. Some friends were booked to fly from Mauritius to London via Paris last Monday, but had the final CDG-LHR legged cancelled and had to fly on the Tuesday morning. They has a stressful time...

    Premium Economy

Hi Wunala, Thanks for the post. Will have to wait for more details. If they do introduce a product better than anything else in the air, it may be well worth considering. Just a bit more width and a bit more recline can make the difference between sleeping and not, though nothing beats flat.

    Premium Economy

I see that QF are to introduce a Premium Economy cabin from February 2008 on some (possibly all) of the 744 and 380 aircraft. Seems to make perfect sense especially as codesharing with BA and their WT+ must have been a headache. So far all there seems to be is one photo of the proposed...
