Domestic flying in Japan, my observations & experiences

I randomly looked up Tokyo -> Aomori... bullet train is 3 hrs 19 minutes whereas flying is 1 hr 15 mins (Haneda). Still seems competitive even with the usual door-to-door disadvantage of flying. Speaking of TOK-CTS I hear they are building a shinkansen all the way to Sapporo. I recently got the...

Domestic flying in Japan, my observations & experiences

Visitors to Japan are rightly impressed by its excellent trains. But I always thought domestic flying in that country is an interesting experience and often overlooked. Having travelled there many times for 15+ years, I provide my observations based ONLY on personal experience - I don't intend...

An efficient way to Japan - ANA 787-9 Economy SYD - HND Trip Report

Regarding cabin temperature, I find everything in Japan overheated (hotels shopping malls etc). I was there in November 2022 and it was unseasonably warm - about 23 C and humid in Nagasaki. The hotel had the HEATING on. It was hell sleeping in that. Next time I went there - March 2023, still a...

Can't use Australian credit card for AA reward booking

Has anyone had this problem? I tried to book a reward seat on Aadvantage. The small cash fee (about $15) needs to be paid so I enter my credit card details. You need to select "billing address" so I try to select Australia. It says I need to make the booking on the AA Australia website. But...

Domestic flights which depart from an International terminal

I have read articles by people who like these flights, mainly because of international lounge access and also bigger A330/787 aircraft. What I'm having difficulty with is how do you actually search for them? Is there a search engine where you can filter for this? Or some published list of flights?

Is hotel housekeeping a lost art?

Some things that I have experienced in recent years: - 3 star hotel in Sydney that told me they do NO housekeeping for stays less then 4 days. - 5 star hotel in Thailand that failed to replace used coffee mugs or replenish tea bags / coffee sachets. Also, they said linen would be changed every...

    Reward seat booking problem

Unfortunately the option is never actually offered. It does appear to be a bug on the website. It rejects me on the basis that I don't have the total 13,700 points *even though* I am selecting the 7,800 + cash option.

    Reward seat booking problem

Trying to book reward economy seat which is 7,800 points. There are 2 options offered - spend 7,800 points + $34.39 OR 7,800 points + 5,900 points. Although the first option is mentioned, I can't actually select it when booking. Anyone else noticed this?

total qantas points not shown in their new layout

I noticed that total points are not shown anymore in the activity statement. I find this very annoying. The total is there, but not the total at the time you received points. If I get $100 into my bank account, my bank statement shows the balance at the time I got the money, as well as the...

Booking a hotel for someone else with Qantas points

Can I book a hotel room for a friend (not family) using points on the Qantas Hotels website? I heard Qantas is very strict about this for flights, but I'm not sure about hotel bookings.

    EQD's

I recently flew a short domestic Qantas flight and received 15 EQD's. The ticket price was around USD150 + tax. In order to qualify for Gold status (oneworld ruby) i would need to earn 1,500 EQD's - so can I extrapolate that to mean I would need to spend USD15,000 to reach Gold?? Seems excessive...

Question about transferring Krisflyer to Velocity

The minimum points required for a transfer is 5,000 - does this mean you can transfer any amount over 5,000 or do you need to transfer in "blocks" of 5,000? In other words, if I had 5,123 points can I transfer all of them at once, or just 5,000 leaving 123 in the krisflyer account?

What’s the point of Status Credits

While we are talking about the basics of status, has anyone tried delaying crediting their points/SC's until the start of the next status year? In other words, 'consolidating' your SC's into the next year to maximise the amount when you don't want/need any more in the current year? I'm sure...

What to do with 6,000 Enrich points

I flew MH recently in N class which unfortunately is not eligible for any Qantas points. I could get about 6,000 Enrich points out of this - but should I even bother claiming the points? I doubt I will be accruing any more Enrich points in the future. Could I do points + pay and get a Qantas...

Lastest Flybuys - Velocity Transfer promotion [share in 10m points]

Strange thing just happened - I booked a rewards seat ADL to MEL one way in business class. I had a look at what the cash fare would have been and I arrived at a calculation of 3.91 cents per point... exactly what they said in the small print in this promotion. If I can value points at such a...
