I noticed the other day that Virgin Australia domestic flights are currently bookable via KrisFlyer online, so you can use KF points right now. I was looking at Perth-Sydney which was 20k in economy and 40k in business class.

Agree that the Qantas Ultimate card is worth getting when the next 100k bonus comes up. The $450 annual fee is offset by a $450 travel credit each year, plus you get lounge passes to use before those NZ trips!

I actually prefer the current points earn rate, since you get more on everyday spend. Before last year's changes it was all about the 'bonus categories' (unless you're referring to an even earlier period?).
