    RewardPay Alternatives

I was liaising with Sniip about this recently and from memory, they only have specific categories that fall into 'personal', and if a category isn't captured in 'personal', it defaults to 'business'.

Can't leave Melbourne Airport During transit??? [DOH-MEL-ADL vv]

My son's girlfriend (20) is looking to do DOH-ADL with the 11pm-6am layover in Melbourne international transit --- any views on whether it's safe for a single young lady to be on her own in transit over these hours? I presume it's fine, as likely to be some staff / security around.

AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

I know this has been covered extensively elsewhere, but my 2 cents worth --- AMEX was clear in my conversations that if you can't prove direct connection between MR points and FF ones used, you're not covered and referred directly to their ambiguous clause in their PDS about this (although I...

Transfer bonus from Amex to Qatar Privilege Club

I notice a bit of negativity across the forums re recent availability of premium setas on Qatar, which makes me cautious about taking advantage of this promotion (although I did have a great experience flying Qatar J return to Europe on VFF points a few months). However, do we think it makes it...

AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

I think that's right --- only outbound needs to be covered

AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

No doubt they are on shaky ground, but I'm not sure I want to be the one to test it! I absolutely agree with your interpretation and think what they told me is nonsense, although the rep I spoke to seemed knowledgeable and aware of the clause, so as you say, it's probably what they've been...

AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

I've waded late into this discussion, but I spoke to Chubb at length about the issue of 'corresponding AMEX ... FF points' and they said that to activate the policy for a rewards booking the claimant MUST be able to prove that the FF points they used were transferred from MR - we discussed the...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I was using your reference to $2.5k/$70k payment - circa 3.5%. Am I mistaken, as in a cash sense, as I am new to this gift card thing, don't you purchase a $100 card for around $95 (including activation fee), so it's actually closer to 5%, which is actually circa $3.5K cash in this instance...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I think it's YMMV - I wouldn't see a 3% saving as worthwhile for that level of effort when I can use Sniip at, in effect, 1c/point purchase price but discussion has still been a very helpful one for me at least to be clear on what's involved.

Transfer through Amsterdam ( Schiphol airport )

I can't really comment on the reality of the transfer time, but I must say that I found AMS to be a pleasant and well organised airport when I was there at XMAS (I know in 2022, it was bedlam) and there are a number of accommodation options close by (we stayed at a nearby airport hotel)

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

yes - actually, when I was just doing the figures, it actually works out as a reasonable purchase of points to pay on sniip - given that you also are holding on to cash for another eg, 4 or 5 weeks which could be earning eg, 4% in the bank - so it still works out around 1 c/point as a business...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

G'day daft - yeh, wow - that's just way too time consuming isn't it! I assume sniip will recognise it as business payment unfortunately :(

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Ymmv - it seems like a fair bit of effort - eg he will need 64 cards purchased over say 6 days if he has 2 fb accounts and then pay off ato v piecemeal style but saves circa 1k and gets 16000 fb points and let's say it was me around 18000 points on my plat card - is that about right? (edit I...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I've always paid tax bills using one of the payment platforms, although they've certainly made that harder - I think I've used almost every one of them over the years! I can still justify it for business tax payments via YP, but not for personal tax payments (even on an AMEX plat). I've never...

Thanks everyone - I double-checked terms for AMEX and it looks like they require a physical card - thanks for reminding me re PP on the app

Access to AMEX lounge without physical card?

Wondering if you can get access to the AMEX lounge without having your physical AMEX Plat card on you and just use the AMEX app? My guess is that it might work and it might not, depending on the lounge rep?? Whilst we're on it - does the same apply to the Priority Pass card? (ie, can you...

    Booking Hotels with QFF points

If you're referring to Qantas Hotels / Holidays, it works out about 1c/point value - a friend had oodles of QFF points and never really flies, so I helped them redeem them for a month's holiday in Qld - they saved around $8K (note - one of above includes reward flights and one doesn't --- the...

Get 50% more points when you transfer from Amex

It feels like really good value to me, as much for the ability to transfer to eg, United and Aeroplan, as it does to use for Marriott hotels --- ie, a 2:1 ratio for United or 2.5:1 ratio for Aeroplan feels great for Aussies, since unless you have a US card, you can't directly use those programs...
