    Bonza Airline Discussion

So they can use forward ticket payments for ongoing operations? Seems reasonable to me (as long as it's not manipulated aka Qantas credit/refund entitlement scam), although "trading while insolvent" doesn't provide much protection once the money has gone. I find the democratic voting, by...

    Qantas Wine latest offering

Be aware, I did the spend THEN read the t&c... "Eligible participants will be sent their A$100 Qantas Hotels and Holidays voucher on 24 May 2024" Damn, too late for what I've planned .

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

At least senior visitors to NSW and Qld get the actual local senior's card, (therefore once only for life?) so all the same benefits as local senior. Of course no discount to/from the private airport line portion (until 2030 SYD, 2036 BNE, I won't hold my breath waiting!).

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Then at 1c/ point, instead of buying toasters all the qff'ers could together buy over ½ of Qantas Airlines (market cap $b9.5)

No Captain you can't have your coffee now, you'll get it when it suits us. And we'll charge you a surcharge for the cup.

Do you leave a tip for hotel housekeeping?

I find it uncomfortable and hate the way it's creeping into au. I think you're right John, discussed tipping with the barman at the Beverly Hilton LA. He said "Australians don't tip"; I didn't prove him wrong :). To me, CA (and apparently a few other states) are different to elsewhere in the US...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

I'll have to plan my flight arr/dep times around off-peak :) "...visiting Adelaide from interstate, if you have a state-issued Seniors Card, you can access a MetroTicket for 14 consecutive days of free off-peak travel during your visit" https://www.seniorscard.sa.gov.au/membership/faqs#Interstate

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

I stated "withdrawing savings...", or to be clearer, compare withdrawing money you've already paid tax on. The legislation as proposed, in some cases, taxes withdrawals (a component of a DB pension) of the after tax contributions. Personally I support taxing income from excessive super balance...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

    a) not comparing apples with apples; $210k tax free income or $210k taxable income. Yep, I'd take a tax free income! b) absolutely, presuming contribution were the same. Perhaps it's not realised that members made after-tax contributions, and will again be paying tax even on the capital...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

More to it than that, tax on income will be up to 62%; tax on CGT 25% (higher than even someone on top personal income rate) and on a paper profit you may never get (values go down too and there will be no refund); it won't just affect funds with actually >$3m but those with DB value (hence 63%...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

It's so inequitable. 7 figure income earners have a lower tax rate. And plumbers on $400,000 are taxed at 25%-30% (company). CGT outside super = 1/2 marginal tax rate. CGT inside super Div296 = 10% + 15%; higher than any marginal rate, not to mention the opportunity cost and cash flow of paying...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Not the phrase I would use, considering to be entitled to this pension one had to contribute AFTER tax contributions, yet unlike other superannuates now pay PAYE tax (sure less 10% on some of it), and now it's proposed an extra to that PAYE rate (eg 30% to 45% either directly, or as I see it...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

As history shows, Treasury's estimates of revenue increases ignores/underestimates the fact that people aren't willing to simply cop it. Which is why I'm thinking up "a cunning plan!" Another eg, many of the large SMSFs have property(ies), so of course they are not going to pay 396 tax on...
