Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It's unfortunate that this thread has deteriorated when I challenged the statement "At 80% vaccination in one of the worlds richest countries, there should be zero issue in handling a few covid patients." I asked for facts, and did not get any - not one. Instead I was dismissed, having "cherry...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Is this based on any facts? 25 million Australians, approx 15% under 12 leaving 21 million eligible. 20% unvaccinated = 5 million. Within 6 months of the pandemic in the UK, the antibody prevalence was 6%. And that was alpha. So 6% of 5 million is 300,000 cases. 5% hospitalisation on current...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I can't comment on the NSW detailed plan, as I am not based in NSW. But I would think it would be very similar to other states plans. Essentially an over arching plan by state government of defined stages, to guide local health districts. Local health districts would self organise resources...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It would have to be very bad times if NSW had to transfer. NSW is by far the best resourced state - with 852 staffed ICU beds (current as of today) with 333 tertiary 126 metro 157 regional 197 private and 45 paediatric. Twice that of Vic - 410 staffed, 145 tertiary, 72 metro, 55 regional, 112...

That was 5 days ago. As per NSW health, there are 39 public general/combined ICUs with a proportion of units also accommodating quaternary service beds for severe burns, acute spinal injury, organ transplantation and ECMO (provided by 9 adult and 3 paediatric ICUs)* 22 private ICUs with 8...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

On the 12 July 21 - AJ and Craig Kelly were rabbiting on about.. Delta is not dangerous "is on par with the average flu (aj)" Vaccines dont work Vaccinated more likely to die than unvaccinated "by a factor of 7 to 8 (ck)" If that's not misinformation, then I don't know what is. TM

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Prior to COVID, there were approximately 500 ICU beds throughout the whole of NSW (public and private). They have doubled the ICU bed capaicty, mainly through repurposing other high acuity wards. Very few additional COVID specific resources have been built. Ventilators have been acquired and...

    General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

I don't think there are significant reports regarding mRNA vaccine VIPIT/VITTS. That editorial was mainly about Adenovirus vaccines. Reports of an ITP like syndrome (idiopathic thrombocytopaenia purpura for those who aren't medics- a syndrome where your platelet count drops and get tiny bleeds...

    General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

Heparin and heparan are endogenous. It is found in skin, lung, gut and mast cells and probable has more an evolutionary immunologic than anticoagulant role. Heparin approved for use in australia is porcine mucous (pig). Recombinant human heparin has been synthesised but is not in clinical use...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

This should never be normal. Decisions to operate or palliate are done based on the patients best interests in mind. The availability of local ICU resources may be an issue, but if the patient will truley benefit, then further ICU resources can be sought inside of the health district (say...

    Hydroxychloroquine - What Goes On?

HCQ is used as a DMARD (disease modifying anti rheumatic drug). It subtly modifies your immune system, so it is not as active against your own body by decreasing cytokine activation. The effects take time, because the observable effects are that of immune activation and inflammation. Just as it...
