Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

Worth a shot, but I reckon they will match VA Platinum to QR Gold. But fingers crossed the match like for like.

    Purchased miles extended expiry

My mistake. I thought the change to expiry they put through last April explicitly excluded mileage purchases. TBH this is the first time I have had to worry about expiry thanks to the lack of Thai availability.

    Purchased miles extended expiry

So I had ~90k worth of miles sitting in an account that were due to expire in Jan 2020. As most people would know LM changed their expiry policy a little while ago and miles are now only good for 12 months. That coupled with the fact that purchasing miles did not count as activity on the account...

Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Yup, when you have a smooth booking LM is a breeze and can be amazing value. But if anything changes I agree its a PIA! haha yes, be very thankful! I had a booking I made for my parents on OZ that had a flight change that no longer worked, so moved it to a UA flight that had availability, then...

Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Fingers crossed Thai opens up partner availability in October once the devaulation goes through.

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

So went through the dance this morning with the offshore call center. Had to cancel the card, but once done was offered 70k velocity to stay. I was happy with that.

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Interesting, did you have to go through the process of actually canceling to get the retention offer? I spoke with the Aus call center earlier this week and they were adamant that the rules have changed since the Royal Commission and they are no longer allowed to make an offer until you...

I'm in the QF Lounge thread

Thanks I did check, nothing registered. As it was a last minute flight for today, I thought I would just check here in case someone was transiting through today.

I'm in the QF Lounge thread

I am flying QF for the first time in many years today, I think I lost my QF status 9 years ago :( Would be grateful if anyone was able to guest me in to SYD domestic lounge from 4pm onwards.

How many people actually fly F in their lives?

Oops totally forgot about BA and QR. I also didnt realise MU and CA offered F ex-AUS I thought that had stopped, you learn something new every day. Assuming your 2000 seats was each way that works out at ~208,000 a year. So 120,000 is probably a good guess

Is International Virgin Reward availability now worse that QANTAS?

They do exist, I have been lucky a few times and if you keep checking they can come up. I have seen multiple times seats pop up at around the 6 month out mark. I suspect that with the influx of crazy sign-on bonuses over the last few years lots of people are jumping on the award seat bandwagon.

How many people actually fly F in their lives?

I was thinking similar, but then I couldn't be bothered trying to work out the total F capacity across all airlines coming in and out of AUS each week. As far as I know, it is only SQ, QF, TG, EK and EY have I missed any? But working out the actual number of seats would require more effort...

How many people actually fly F in their lives?

This is an interesting question, I suspect the number may actually be larger than people think. I suspect for people that can afford it, it just becomes the regular way to travel, is that more than 1%? I'm not sure. I've only managed to fly F 5 times ex Australia (all on points) but almost all...

Using VA points to fly EY in J

Congrats, you won't regret it!! Row 3 and row 4 are my picks as you get the true window seats that are closer to the window. Lots of people don't like facing backwards which limits your choice down to 4A and 4K otherwise if you don't mind facing the wrong way 3A and 3K are just as good. In...

Govt cracks down on airport TRS rebates for Aust travellers

It has been said multiple times already in the thread, but I will say it again. Forget the name of the scheme it is irrelevant, the issue is whether goods that are purchased tax-free (or have the tax refunded) are brought back into the country and not declared. I would hazard a guess that the...

    Frankfort Lounge Options- F Class

Yup that's exactly what I did. The lockers are the Senator lounge are very handy.

    Frankfort Lounge Options- F Class

You only have two options available either the Senator lounge or the Air Canada lounge. Most people would prefer the Air Canada lounge based on reviews I have seen, however, I actually prefer the Senator lounge last time I was there 18 months ago. You will enjoy Thai F, it's fantastic :)

Using VA points to fly EY in J

If you are happy to pay the taxes, I would say do it. EY F is a a true experience you will love it.

Govt cracks down on airport TRS rebates for Aust travellers

Pretty much, they do usually remind you (if the item is over $900) that you have to declare the items if you bring them back in. If you object to TRS then do you also object to airport duty free? Agree TRS is named poorly but it is the same thing. The issue isn't people abusing theTRS scheme...

Anyone taken up the current 100k Assure Sign on Bonus

Where did you see 9 months? The T&Cs on the home page say 60 days. I am once again considering this, I chickened out last time as I am on quite a good older plan with HCF, but 120k is very tempting. "QFF members who purchase a Qantas Assure (QA) Health Insurance policy between 12/2/18 and...
