I would have found another door to leave by too if there was someone waiting outside the toilet for me.

    Successful CSM requests

I was recently in J flying BNE-MEL. Sitting in 2C, 2A was open. Just before descent the CSM came up and told me they were moving a pax from Y into 2A as he had never flown into MEL before and wanted a window seat. The CSM said "he is a platinum like you, but with a partner airline". It didn't...

To Airbnb or Not to Airbnb

A few years ago there was a group of 6 of us (2 couples and 2 singles) in New York and we got a great 4 bedroom 3 bathroom apartment right near Union Square in Manhattan through AirBnB. It worked much better for us in a group situation than 4 separate hotel rooms would have, and it was...

    A letter to Alan Joyce

As someone who used to work in complaint management for a large organisation, I can pretty much guarantee that neither AJ, nor any senior or executive person at QF will ever see this letter, apart from as part of aggregate data on report. And that's assuming the person who deals with it even...

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Didn't actually see her but was in the MEL J lounge over xmas when they paged "Magda Szubanski travelling to Adelaide" to come to the service desk. I would have thought they would have just walked through and found her rather than paging.

Close quarters - don't you hate it when...

Indeed. I like going to the gym when it's quiet but inevitably someone will get on the treadmill right next to mine even when there are plenty of free ones available.

What I ate today - the food thread

I stayed there a few years ago. Hands down the creepiest place I've ever stayed at (especially to come back to after doing the Port Arthur ghost tour). Only had some cheese and oysters there as we had stopped for a late lunch of scallop pies on the way.

QF business not what it used to be?

Earlier in the year went to LAX in QF J and returned in AA J. I reckon it's a line call as to which is better. There is no question the AA seat is much better (private, comfortable, spacious and lots of storage). However in terms of the soft product: the service on AA is good and the food is...

Amtrak a few tips and warnings

I took the Amtrak Acela Express Boston-New York and return this year in First Class. Trains were on time. First class passengers have access to a basic lounge at stations. The First carriage is in a 2-1 layout, good wifi, all meals and drinks are inclusive (food quality was ok: comparable to a...

Are some more equal than others?

On a recent AA flight in Domestic F. I was the last F passenger to board, had an aisle seat 3C. All F overheads were full except the one above my seat, which had 3A's bag taking half the space and the other half was empty. I'm stopped next to the seat just putting down the handle on my carryon...

Fake status - buying QF bag tags online

I ran into an interstate colleague in the office the other day and noticed the shinny white Platinum One tag on his suitcase. Now, I know for a fact he only has Gold status. When I asked him about it, he said he purchased it on ebay, basically so people will think he is WP1. I just don't...
