I have used the 50% off discount- it is before tax. So i booked (through the phone service) a flight syd-hbr for myself at normal price (you cant use the cheapest fare however, which wasnt much of a difference in this case), and my partners flight was 50% (tax not included). So roughly 40-45% off.
