United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

One thing I noticed recently on my VA codeshare bookings, on the confirmation page there is a little link for 'Partner Airline Reference' (or similar wording). When I click on it, I get the United PNR! Which is great, because you use that to pull up the UA flight on their app/website to book...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

For what it's worth (and I know it's a different scenario), I was able to book a flight to TFS by calling that wasn't available online. I had to call during business hours to get someone competent. So I'd say it's still worth a call (although I sympathize that the phone agents can be incredibly...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

Ah, my mistake. I guess I forgot how VA awards work then. I'd suggest calling and seeing if they can manually ticket it then.

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

A few years ago on United the rule was a maximum 4 hour connection on domestic USA and a maximum 24 hours on an international connection. But nowadays if the online search won't combine them, an agent usually won't either. So it's just a coughshoot. If I'm not mistaken, VA will charge the same...

Booking UA Velocity Award when airport isn't listed on Velocity site

Agreed! Couldn't believe it was available on short notice :)

Booking UA Velocity Award when airport isn't listed on Velocity site

Awesome advice! Thank you! That crossed my mind actually, maybe I could force the website, but I didn't actually get to trying it. Shame VA doesn't just let you type in the airport code... If it isn't found then it an just give an error! Sometimes they overcomplicate things.

Booking UA Velocity Award when airport isn't listed on Velocity site

Thanks for the response! Just about an hour ago I was able to do just that. Got two awards booked ATL-EWR-TFS for this summer 🌞! Great use of points. The agent asked why I didn't book online, and when I told him, he waived the phone booking fee too 👍👍

Booking UA Velocity Award when airport isn't listed on Velocity site

Hi All- I did try to search but no luck. I'm interested in booking a UA award from EWR-TFS (Tenerife). There are saver awards on the UA website. But on the velocity site, the airport isn't an option to select. Is it likely I can book this award over the phone? Since I am OS I thought I'd...

Booking award seats USA to Cuba on AA using QFF points

Thanks for this thread as I was just trying to figure out the same issue. I suppose QF is trying to protect its travelers by restricting Cuba (or maybe all countries that meet the state-sponsor of terrorism criteria?). All very political. However I would like to use QF points to fly from the...

    Qantas TravelPass discussion

I wasn't able to generate any page which showed the UATP balance or similar, or allowed me to pay partially with UATP when using it as a credit card. In the end I booked a one-way out of AU which priced in AUD, this gave me the Qantas Pass option. This option does let you use the UATP Qantas...

    Qantas TravelPass discussion

Thanks for the experience. Maybe there's hope then. I'll try a few other ways to try and get this to go through.

    Qantas TravelPass discussion

Yes, as I said I tried putting the pass number in the credit card field (which then shows UATP as the payment method) but it gave an error. Presumably because it doesn't cover the entire amount? It just says 'Im sorry, we are having problems charging your payment method' or something like that...

    Qantas TravelPass discussion

I hold a current Qantas Pass with about A$2000 credit. I want to fly from the US to Australia round-trip. This obviously prices out in USD. The Qantas Pass terms say it can be used for a different currency, but when I go to book, no Qantas Pass payment is shown at all. I did read elsewhere that...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

Considering it took 10 years for points upgrades on Delta to become a reality, my guess is 2030. (What can I say, I'm an optimist! ;) ) I would not expect this anytime soon, it's very low on the priority list for airline partnerships and probably a pain to implement.

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

Agreed, if people expect Guam (or anywhere in Micronesia) to be full of activities catering to tourists or with plentiful high-end resorts, they'll be sorely disappointed. But I found that part of the world to be an amazing place to travel. The biggest reason I'd say a connection in GUM is...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

I wouldn't wait to book anything. The partnership will be what it is regardless. You'll just add the VA number to your UA booking when it starts. Points upgrades between partners historically take ages to get going. We'll be lucky if you can upgrade a UA flight with Velocity points by the end...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

The DL partnership had this too, until the breakup started. (Don't tell anyone but Velocity status still gets you domestic itinerary Skyclub access as of March 2022, I can personally vouch for that)

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

It seems like those whispers always are there with a new partnership, but the implementation of partner upgrades has always been clunky at best. And usually involves high base fares to be eligible. Don't forget DL and VA had this already, yet it was pretty difficult to manage...

    Can't achieve segments outside Australia

I doubt there are many. The lounges almost never know what Velocity is. But it was a decent program if you wanted lounge access and didn't care about First Class upgrades. VA does make money when people fly Delta, Delta would pay for the Velocity points. Although VA would pay for lounge access...

    Can't achieve segments outside Australia

Definitely. They took away Comfort+ upgrades some time ago. So now the benefits are limited to baggage check lines and the limited benefit of preferred seating (I often buy Comfort+ anyway). And since I carry-on regularly and have TSA Pre check that's not a huge benefit. Oh well
