This whole thing sounds way too hard. Just stay in a close by Hotel to LAX and make your way east the following day.

This is me today. Checked out of my Hotel at 12pm and killing time until my airport transfer arrives at 6pm for a 930pm departure. 1 hour massage, 1.5 hours at a cafe and now lying on a sun bed back at the hotel pool trying not to get sweaty. Long boring day

I spent 6 months there for work. Stay beachfront. Plenty of cafe/restaurants on the coast. Traffic is bedlam and you will get harassed by locals. Not in an aggressive way tho. I never went snorkeling but my friends loved it.
