How do you decide on annual multi-trip vs one offs?

I've always used TID and taken an annual policy, as I generally have 2-3 OS trips a year. And it gives me some domestic cover, like the insurance excess on a car rental for any domestic trips. For a family (2A + 2Ch) the cost difference is not significant versus multiple single-trip policies...

    Upgrades on partner airlines

Hi all, not really expecting any "silver bullets" but hoping the Collective AFF Brains Trust may be able to offer some wisdom around upgrading on VA partner airlines. I've been a fairly happy VA member for many years (mostly Platinum). Domestically I much prefer their service, priority boarding...

A330s what to do with ?

Bit off topic, but just had a look at this as I’m looking for SYD/LAX fares and T&Cs include stuff like “TICKETS MUST BE ISSUED ON HR AND MAY NOT BE SOLD IN AUSTRALIA/ CANADA/ FRANCE/ GERMANY/ IRELAND/ NETHERLANDS/ NEW ZEALAND... “ And a reference to Frequent flier points not being earned...

Upgrades on DL flights as a VA Frequent Flier

Hoping for some feedback/insights from the community (I'm a long-time VA Platinum domestic traveller, but only recently ventured away from QF for int flights and I'm finding it way more complex to navigate than OneWorld!...) So: SYD/LAX on 24/March and LAX/SYD on 27/March. VA have said...

Getting lost property back from JNB... aargh!

Thanks @BAM1748, that had crossed my mind... will do some more investigation tomorrow. Am more concerned about the photos than the camera itself (a $250 compact), although my 9yr old did manage to work out how to wirelessly connect his iPad to the camera and has downloaded half the photos...

Getting lost property back from JNB... aargh!

Hoping someone might have a clever solution to what's turning out to be very complicated... My son left his brand-new camera (with all his photos from our Namibia holiday) in the BA lounge at Johannesburg airport on the way home. He realised as we were taxiing down the runway. After many phone...

Velocity vs Star Alliance - worth changing?

@Jack3193, I'm trying to solve some serious first world problems ;-) On a serious note, I can get lounge access via Priority Pass via an Amex Platinum card. The reason for reaching out to the collective AFF brains trust before continuing to commit my SCs to VA for another year - or what I am...

Velocity vs Star Alliance - worth changing?

Thanks - I hadn't understood the distinction between "miles" and "elite miles". I did see a reference to "When you fly with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Virgin Atlantic^, Virgin Australia*, Vistara#, any Star Alliance airline or selected Star Alliance Connecting Partner airlines, you’ll also...

Velocity vs Star Alliance - worth changing?

Am considering switching from VA (I've just retained VA Plat for the third year) to *A. Looking at previous threads, the general consensus last year was stick to VA, if most flights are domestic, which mine are. What's changed? the VA / Air NZ arrangement has been terminated - and NZ was one...

Should I jump ship to Qantas?

Interesting discussion and a dilemma I have every year... for the last two years I've worked out that QF Gold + VA Platinum is the best attainable outcome (can't reach QF WP with my level of flying, but family pooling makes VA Plat achievable). My overall experience: * VA wins hands-down for...

Points plus Pay on JQ fiasco

The obvious is often the option I overlook :-) I didn't try a different browsers (and I was using most recent version of Chrome!). Probably should have done this in hindsight, but didn't after both a QFF agent and a supervisor confirmed it couldn't be done... have now booked using $$ (rather...

Points plus Pay on JQ fiasco

Have been trying for a couple of days to book a JQ flight using my QFF points (LST/SYD, where there are very few QF options). All looks good until the QF web site transfers me to the JQ site, at which point I cannot complete the booking - the Web page just keeps re-loading and won't let me...

15% On Line Redemption booking discount Ends

The one down-side of using Enrich... When I've had to make change to a redemption booking it's been tempting to make a completely new booking and lose the points on the original one, than try and explain the change to a call centre agent!

15% On Line Redemption booking discount Ends

Yes, I've booked at three OS family holidays in J as Enrich always had great availability. Hopefully 4x J on SIA is possible if one books early enough ahead. (I've almost given up completely on QF as even upgrades to J are hit and miss...)

Jetstar vs Virgin (with 2-for-1, 10% code and 5% entertainment book offers)

Was that therapeutic :) I'd pay a (small) premium not to fly Jetstar in Y, especially on leisure routes where Jetstar seems to attract a certain class of traveller that expect a far higher level of service than what they are paying for (to phrase it diplomatically)!

Qantas Club: joining fee waived, double points for new members

Yes. It's becoming more common that I walk in, get my coffee fix and a newspaper and enjoy the (relative) solitude of th seating at the gate! I'm being a little cynical, perhaps, but I would have thought QF is starting to alienate their most frequent fliers as the lounges get increasingly...

Why does it need to be so difficult VIRGIN??

JQ is a basket case... Even QF Plat customer agents admit this, but will (in my limited experience) credit the SCs immediately if you send boarding cards. VA seems to be very inconsistent - I've had an outbound NZ flight credit within a few days and the return flight take over 3 months, four...

That's a good idea... So much space in those lounges :)

JetStar Business Max bundle "not available"

Thanks - I wasn't sure if the bags would be checked through to final destination, ever though the terminals are separate. Sounds like a plan.

JetStar Business Max bundle "not available"

Wait... it gets better... if I book HNL/MEL via SYD, JetStar offers me the Max Bundle. So if I book HNL/SYD flight I can't get the Max Bundle, BUT if I go HNL/SYD/MEL I can. Anyone see any issues checking bags through to Sydney only? Would love to understand the yield management logic behind this.
