I mean, there are other options including growing as an airline (thus having more seats available) or working with partners to include reward seats as a part of their JVs/codeshare arrangements.

Maybe it's the other way around, the fees and charges represent the cost to operate (airline charges qff) and the points are the profit? Announcement also lists that the "TFCC" (taxes, fees, carrier charges) are higher for cr+ in J/f But not printed anywhere, so subject to enhancement?

Completely agree with you here. Breakage due to not using points before expiry is easy money for programs. The worst value toaster or gift card is better value than nothing.

There is probably some reasonable fear of a one time cash flow impact if/when excited masses of people jump on to book e.g. $ from QF loyalty to QF airline. Something else that's occured to me is a fixed points to $ ratio does is reduce the need for future devaluation e.g. as airfares inflate...
