It could be that alot of business travel is booked within the week of travel. I know my travel to syd melb return costs around $450-600 in whY when I book only two or three days before and the thought of a 6am flight down and 8pm flight back for $160 each way is just too much to deal with.

You can through check your bags from QF to 3K, I had this done recently for a SYD-MEL-SIN-BKK flight (QF-QF-3K). This was all booked on the same PNR however. Separate tickets I'm not sure but given its a 3K coded flight on my baggage receipt, I'd say its definitely possible!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! Id say your best bet would be cheap F flights while you're in the US. If you dont have time then booking CX flights out of PVG intra asia in J isn't too bad. You can get flights for between $5-8 per SC depending on destination

I'd cancel the points booking, take the 75k you'll earn from the flights in paid J and book 2x RTW J Redemptions later on.
