Flybuys Velocity Status Credits late to Post

My Status Credits from Flybuys for July-October 2023 inclusive have still not been posted to my Velocity account, although the SC's from subsequent months have arrived just a few days after the end of the relevant month. When I called Velocity, they referred me to FlyBuys, on the understandable...

Strange Qantas economy / business redemption pricing

Thanks - that looks to be the case! I've seen "Business" Rewards actually book downwards into Economy for one or more legs, but never an "Economy" Reward book upwards. You learn something new every day......!

Strange Qantas economy / business redemption pricing

Bit of a strange one while doing some flight research. Male (Maldives) > Colombo > Melbourne on Sri Lankan Airlines is 100,000 pts +$247 in Economy or 86,200 points and $341 in Business. Wouldn't be a difficult decision if I was in a position to make a firm booking right now!

Article: How to Improve Airport Security Queues

The full-body scanners are also part of the problem - they take several times longer than just walking through a metal-detector arch, and they don't seem to work consistently. I've seen false positives on a large percentage of people, which then need checking, but I've never seen a true positive...

    New Luggage Recommendations

We like the small version of the Lojel Cubo; a hard shell case with a front-opening design rather than the usual clamshell set-up. The front panel can also be set up to give you an easy access laptop / documents pocket Cubo Small | LOJEL USA

Virgin Australia enter Voluntary Administration - Impact on Amex cards?

I noticed that too; I'm not overly familiar with their scheme (I got that card mainly for zero overseas commission reasons and don't yet have enough non-bonus points to worry), but if I understand their system correctly, it seems a bit bizarre given that the card earns ANZ Rewards Points and...

Virgin Australia enter Voluntary Administration - Impact on Amex cards?

I cancelled my Velocity Escape Amex card last night. I gather that switching immediately to a different Amex card means I'm not eligible for any of the bonus point / sign-up offers, so I'll probably apply for one of the Qantas Money credit cards initially, then possibly switch back to Amex in...

Thanks; hadn't noticed that thread so my apologies for the duplication!

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

I've just seen a news report that a shop in Denmark is charging 40 kroner ($10-ish) for your first bottle of hand sanitiser and they'll sell you the second for 1,000 kroner ($250-ish). Brilliant way to stop stockpiling and ensure fair access for everyone. Now all we need is for Coles, Woolies...

    The C word, R U OK?

There's a bit of confusion somewhere in the system r.e. timing as I was posting from the USA and your 2nd post wasn't available / visible to me at the time when I replied, hence I wasn't actually cherry-picking. I perhaps took the wrong approach / wrong wording to making my point, and my...

The "I am in self-isolation" thread

I flew back to Australia today and have a domestic connection in business class on a miles redemption booking. At the transfer desk, I asked to be put onto the earlier domestic flight home, so that I wasn't spending 7 hours in the Qantas Lounge prior to going into mandatory self-isolation. I...

    The C word, R U OK?

Apologies for the confusion; I'm definitely NOT doom and gloom about it all - my response was primarily answering Lawrage's question "we dont lock down entire countries every year when flu season rolls around now do we?". If he believes we should be in lockdown for coronavirus then I was just...

    The C word, R U OK?

I agree with the impact of coronavirus on the vulnerable, and the tragic deaths that have resulted from that but if you believe that coronavirus kills more people than influenza (in terms of absolute numbers) then it's you who is in denial at this point. The World Health Organization estimates...

Has anyone been impacted by the Coronavirus? Will travel insurance cover the costs if we wanted to cancel? Especially if the flights are with points.

Thanks - would be nice to get the cash back, although obviously not good that it's serious enough for WHO to issue the warning....

Has anyone been impacted by the Coronavirus? Will travel insurance cover the costs if we wanted to cancel? Especially if the flights are with points.

Agreed - I've got a 48-hour stopover in Hong Kong coming up in mid February and spoke to my travel insurer today to clarify the situation. They advised that the tickets and insurance must BOTH have been purchased prior to any epidemic or natural disaster PLUS there must be a "Don't Travel"...
