    The available flights with the SYD-PER flight i want, start in MEL, so basically id have to book SYD-MEL and then the MEL-PER which takes me back to SYD 1st before getting on the flight I actually want SYD-PER.

    As scwappy said...probably the ability to book one way. Cost wise its not a big difference if flying Qantas: Alaskan 40,000 +16,000 bonus = 56,000 points for $1100 USD so it would be $2200 for a AUS - USA return ticket on Qantas USDM 50,000 + 50,000 bonus + 10,000 = $2100 USD Works out...

    Just brought 10,000 AS points this morning through points.com ...using my aussie Virgin CC...used my address here in Perth...no issues. Brought the points to change from flying PER - LAX on Qantas (55K ea) to PER - LAX - SEA on Cathay (60k ea) :)

    We had used Alaskan miles in January to fly one way PER - BNE - LAX in J (we cruised back home)...no issues with buying miles in December last year. Were now back to LA after buying again during this current 35% promo. PER - BNE- LAX Qantas Business...and then return LAX - HKG - PER Cathay...

    Yep awesome deal...:) I found the best way to search was to use american airlines website..as they only show the full J bookings.,..then when I see an available seat...go back to Alaska and book :)

    Just thought id update this :) Change of plans... we are now flying J QF Perth - Brisbane...then J QF Brisbane - Los Angeles. So not going via Honolulu...but we are getting to LA a few days earlier. All thanks to Alaskan Air :)...was $3400 for both of us PER-LAX in J :)

    The rush is because we have to book the flights for 18/01...and thats not too far away. If we don't get enough points...not a problem...already booked in economy with virgin.

    Never flown business before....and we fly PER-SYD stay overnight then SYD-HNL (cannot get any business class seats)...so at least the 1st part of our trip will be a bit different :) Its not that important...but would be a nice way to start off our holiday :)

    Again the wait period for the points wont help unfortunately :( The points needed in total are only 14,000 which to buy is $437...I was just hoping that Qantas would let me go to 19% of the total fare :)

    Does anyone know if QFF are strict with the 15% use of purchased points max for an award fare? I've got 58,800 points...looking to book 2 x PER-SYD (72,000 points)...14,000 points will cost $437...but will get us business class for the 1st time :). However 15% max used would be only 10,800...

    Sorry should have been more clear... Yes we have currently booked JQ economy via classic award. Thinking i should at least cancel the booking and rebook using marginal ASA economy to get SC and points? Then if its available i have the option to upgrade i available...as under the classic...
