What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Another analysis from XE: "Aussie dollar payments are now the most cost effective since late March. Weights for the Down Under dollar emerged this week in a noticeable rise in U.S. Treasury yields, which sapped some of Australia’s favorable interest rate differentials, deterioration in...

    Heads up about program changes

You might like to read this article, as it indicates that AA will be moving to a fare based points earn in the New Year. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/17/business/17road.html?_r=0 You might also note that as an Elite with AA you DO NOT get lounge access in the USA.

    pointless duty free

While I agree Duty Free is expensive compared to the free market, I do sometimes buy wine in the Sydney DF as they do stock some difficult to get vintages and labels, though compared to cellar doors DF are often up to 10% higher. For all other purchases I buy in the USA (now live here...

    The Virgin Traveller

If you are really looking for a good outlet mall, you might want to try Gilroy since you are in san Francisco (I've been to all mentioned and Gilroy surpases them all) it's about a half hour south of San jose. Also on your trip down the coast you might like The Flying Dutchman in Morro Bay, just...

    Heads up about program changes

This looks to me like a very well calculated scheme to make flying remote from QFF, note on the first tab: "While we're making changes in the air, rest assured this does not affect your points balance or the way you earn with our broad range of partners on the ground." Seems to me that selling...

Which status qualification year should this flight be in!?

The one argument you could use is that 28th of February in the USA is actually 1st of March in Australia. I think this should work as Qantas used it to their benefit with my wife's membership, because our address is in the USA they use the date in the US at the real time we fly. What happened...

Guess thats the end of my SG

I will probably just use a credit card for status here, but do like to fly Qantas. It seems slightly short sighted on their behalf to have their flights filled by AA. I mean one of the cards will let me earn miles and redeem them for flights (as though they are cash) with a 20% discount on the...

Guess thats the end of my SG

As I have recently moved permanently to the USA, I decided to check with Qantas regarding keeping my status as I will be heading to Australia every 18 months or so. so I asked about ways to maintain the status without having to fly to Australia every year (to get the 4 Qantas flights). I...

Who would you fly econ LAX to Vegas

You could try for something different a stretch limo, with fully stoked bar, for two people it may not be the cheapest but for more than two can be great value. Have organised the trip for friends Christmas 2011 and the limo with snacks and bar (beer/spirits/champagne/soft-drink) was a little...

Do Priority Luggage Tags expedite baggage on carousel?

My last trip home, Priority tagged bags in first lot on carousal in LAX on the way back the third bag out in SYD with QF, so yes the tags do work at least for this trip. It was my first trip as SG and therefore the only experience thus far.

Currency conversion - better to sell in foreign land or buy it in Aus?

I don't have a problem with residency, funny quirk in the laws means I am legally required to have a drivers licence/passport for each country and both claim I am a resident. Thank goodness for the tax treaty between the two. Citibank are interesting in this situation (I can have a $AU account...

Currency conversion - better to sell in foreign land or buy it in Aus?

Just an interesting point I just worked out. I have accounts in the US and Australia and use XE.com to transfer money between the two, as I earn my wages in $AUD and live (pay majority of bills) in the USA so needed the best deal for the exchange rates. I thought that only worked for people in...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

The increase is due to the fact that the market had priced in a 0.5% cut prior to the announcement and when it was only 0.25% the price had to be recalculated. Not so bizarre.

The ex-QFF benefits list. What do you miss the most?

I know this is OT but just to put this into perspective with the $800 fuel and taxes, all of my flights start in LAX fly through SYD then onto various locations. Over the past two years depending on season I have paid (direct to Qantas) $US739-US$1800 per round trip using no points or anything...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Lets face it the Aussie $ is probably down for some time for the among other reasons: 1. The interest rate has been reduced by the RBA. 2. The major mining companies have published reports showing a reduction of 40% in Australian investment over the next five years. Had a Rio Tinto employee in...

    Qantas axes inflight internet

Sorry if I upset people, but in my circumstance where I work in Australia and live in the USA, getting the emails out of the way on the trip over is a good thing. It means after I get home rather than "catching up" on emails I can spend very very precious time with my wife and all I lost was...

    Qantas axes inflight internet

I have a seemingly endless stream of emails which come in, and it is the replies to new emails that can be critical. Still I would assume another carrier will offer the service and more than likely appreciate the 10 round-trips a year between Australia and the USA.

    Qantas axes inflight internet

This is something that I am highly disappointed by. Absolutely loved the ability to email on my way to LAX, saved hours once on the ground and could enjoy the time rather than catch up on emails. I used the service every time I could BUT on multiple flights was told that the wifi was not working...
