Points / Status earn on QF NRT/SYD with "earthquake" diversion to HKG

Looks like this has become somewhat academic now, as DFAT have lifted the "Do Not Travel" advisory for Tokyo and at about the same time today upcoming Qantas flights we have booked have reverted to the original direct NRT/SYD routing. Unsurprisingly, seat selection shows the flights are pretty...

Points / Status earn on QF NRT/SYD with "earthquake" diversion to HKG

Thanks. I guess that's true. Interesting that the currently listed flights for purchase up to 30 April are separate flight numbers though, with a mix of CX and QF metal. To me, the way they are displaying in the booking system now looks more like the case of buying a ticket that is explicitly...

Points / Status earn on QF NRT/SYD with "earthquake" diversion to HKG

No doubt this is a petty issue and I apologise in advance for any offence caused if it seems I'm trivialising what has happened in Japan recently; that is certainly not my intention... I live in Japan with my family and as some of you will no doubt be aware flights for SYD/NRT have all become...

Pilot on approach to Tokyo during earthquake

I just read this report Written by a Delta pilot on approach to Tokyo during earthquake and it makes for yet another useful (and scary) perspective on recent events in Japan. I hope someone else finds it interesting.

    Citi launching new Signature card

I can beat that, I applied with just under 90 seconds to spare  As some earlier posters have noted, the approval process was relatively painful compared to other cards I've had over the years, but all done now. Now it's just a matter of waiting for those juicy bonus points (and hoping the...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Phone calls to pay bills? How quaint ;) Don't forget you can pay securely online, which I find a lot less hassle: no arbitrary limit of paying 5 lots at a time (though $50,000 per payment still applies); you also get a printable receipt, and you save some cents on the call(s) too.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Thanks and glad to have helped by starting off the thread. It has indeed been (and continues to be) a good little earner. Now I've just got to come up with some ways to keep our profit up so we can keep paying more tax! Amazing how this little incentive makes tax preparation and payments almost...

    Citi launching new Signature card

Yes, but it was probably written but the same outsourced folk that answer the call centre phones - so you have to make some allowances....

Pay for building a house with CC

Yes, sadly, I can confirm that $hitibank actively enforces the 120K points cap. Would be good to know of what 1:1 Visa or Mastercard is still out there with no points cap.

AMEX four digit number next to the name

+1 for Plat Charge with 5007. Now, since that seems to be partly solved: Has anyone ever noticed that AMEX has a Visa/MC style CVV on the signature strip (3 digits after the card number) in addition to the usual 4-digit AMEX CID on the front of the card?

    Using iPhone when overseas.

I've had some good and bad experiences with iPhone overseas. The bad bits were some damn expensive lessons :( The other downside is being overseas and knowing how useful iPhone could be (in particular GPS) and having to decide whether or not to use it due to costs. Good experiences: Voda AU SIM...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Actually that's overkill unless you really need an extension as you can just do multiple $10k payments one after the other, as I and others have successfully done.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

That's great news, thanks for posting. Shame I already paid most things by Citi Visa... Oh well.. Hopefully this will become a permanent payment option at the ATO. Certainly makes me enthusiastic about paying taxes, which I dare say is a first...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

As others have posted above, just to confirm it definitely posts as two separate transactions to the card: one for the amount of tax remitted and one for the credit card service fee. From the (outsourced) ATO payment page: The details will be displayed as ATO payment and Card payment fee – ATO...

10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

My promised points reconciliation letter arrived yesterday, just one day shy of one month later than AMEX promised it, and a few days after "final" points were received. For anyone still reading this thread and interested, my final payout by AMEX's calculations was 1,225,000. Just slightly...

10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I seem to have finally got more or less all the points owing to me overnight! I haven't done a final check to see that they all reconcile yet, but it's certainly within cooee of what I was expecting. May be significant that I reluctantly opened an FOS case about a week back, but I'm not sure...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Tell me about it... I paid > $75K in the past week or two  Mind you, at least some of it would have been capped due to their $10K limit (but still would have got through a fair bit over $10K due to different paying entities etc.....) Anyway, if the trial goes well then it is conceivable...
