Purchasing a seat for infant on UA - car seat or not?

We are travelling SYD LAX on UA in November with our then 3 year old and 1 year old. We are travelling on award Y class seats. Originally we were planning on having our 1 year old in our laps but I'm getting a bit nervous about that now especially since I'm having issues getting our infant added...

Purchasing infant (on lap) ticket at checkin

We're actually travelling Y class...surely a full published Y fare isn't $10,000 odd? We're trying to work out a way to get 80,000 points over to our krisflyer account to just book him a seat now before the seats disappear. Wish us luck. Need to apply for an amex card, gift my points to dh and...

Purchasing infant (on lap) ticket at checkin

The woman was saying it would be cheaper to do at check-in as they would be able to charge me 10% of the cheapest airfare. I asked for it in writing but she said it's not possible. Any ideas on how to escalate? Also we not only want to know we will all get on the flight but also how much it's...

Purchasing infant (on lap) ticket at checkin

I have just made a UA award booking using my krisflyer points. I was told at the time of booking that I would have to contact UA to purchase a commercial ticket for my infant. I've just spoken to UA and they have advised that they are not allowed to change my booking (to add the infant) and...

Airline Fuel and Insurance Surcharge (YQ)

Thanks anat0l...you've been a great help. Yep I understand what you're saying...but I'm still annoyed.. LOL And totally makes sense about the premium redemptions...have been wondering if I wait a year or two if I'll be able to get the extra 180k miles for business class for 3 of us on one of the...

Airline Fuel and Insurance Surcharge (YQ)

Of course..yes...I think it was SGD...makes sense. I am the only one feeling outraged by these surcharges? They basically make my points worthless if purchasing a economy ticket which I will pretty much always be doing due to a family of 4. I don't know....maybe I'm just ignorant and naive! I...

Airline Fuel and Insurance Surcharge (YQ)

Craziness. BNE LAX BNE (via AKL) with Air New Zealand has an approx surcharge of $1050 per person. Looks like the cheapest option is UA at $201.80 per person but after reading reviews of them I really don't want to travel on them on a longhaul flight with 2 kids.

Airline Fuel and Insurance Surcharge (YQ)

there doesn't seem to be any YR or YQ in the 'additional costs' section so I'm not going to get my hopes up as looks like they might build it into their fare :( Thanks again for your help...will update you when I find out the deal! And yep I get you re maybe flying to a different...

Airline Fuel and Insurance Surcharge (YQ)

Thanks so much for explaining this to me...Air New Zealand is an excellent idea...will ring SQ tomorrow and see what they say...points wise I can afford it...I did a quote for a normal fare and the surcharges were in the $400 region for all 4 of us...is that likely to be an indication of what...

Airline Fuel and Insurance Surcharge (YQ)

Hi, I'm sorry my first post is a bit of a rant (but really also a call for advice) and I'm sorry if I sound a little naive or ignorant but I'm quite new to redeeming mileage on international flights. I've only ever redeemed points for domestic flights and not very often! We did a big mixed...
