I've been keeping an eye on the A330 fleet dispatch reliability the last few weeks and there are consistent problems with cancelled flights or delays of five hours +. The fleet is clearly stretched way too thin and their age is catching up with them. Really embarrassing.

YMMV but I have a soft spot for Skybed II. It's really not that that bad and has such masses of space. Very unlucky to get it both ways in October and I would hedge a strong chance at least one way will change before then.

Conjecture is that when Eithad decided to bring back their A380s that took precedence and the QF birds are playing second fiddle. Only so many staff and hours.

There's 28 A330s to replace. The original plan was that later 787 orders would be the replacements.

Ok twist to my plan. I just discovered rather unbelievably a J award from LAX to MEL via SYD on the whale on Tuesday so I grabbed that and will cancel my flex Y booking for thursday and get a credit. Massive win.

Update: My rollover credits magically appeared this morning on Feb 27th. Balance returning to the planet.....

Isn't it a bit odd that if it was some sort of weather related shock that they didn't report this back to the field/ATC in order to alert later departing aircraft?

Interesting. So possible a quite different scenario to the Qatar Dreamliner of a couple of weeks back? Amazing the passengers didn't' realise how close it was to disaster and have a flood of social media etc at the time.

There's no way they will sell a premium direct flight with a departure of 0600 from London. Who is going to want to get up at 3am and have to get to Heathrow before public transport even begins? They will also want to pick up connections from other parts of UK/EU so I Would suspect they may hold...

My thoughts exactly. One of many signs that things are slowing down fast in this economy. I was shocked when I got to the airport and there was essentially no queue at all for security and the lounge was less than half full.
