Yes it's just happened to me this week. Same scenario 5 SC short & happily bumped up to Gold although I do have flights booked in the next month anyway. Hopefully lady luck is on your side too.

Question - what's to stop a dishonest flyer from saying they're not satisfied & then going ahead with the booking anyway in order to avoid the finder's fee?

FWIW last weekend I had pre-allocated 1A only to be advised by the lounge angel that I was seated in 1C... she could see that I had pre-allocated but could only say that it must've been allocated to another pax. Anyway on board I discovered that 1A was vacant so ended up sitting there after all...

OOL-MEL is a favourite of mine - zone 2 so it works out at $4.24 per SC.

When I've walked past it hasn't been crowded but I mostly fly out first thing in the morning so it may get busier later on. Not really an issue anyway since I use OLCI & travel light.
