Agree with that statement. We are amongst many who never pay for lounge access so our perceived value is different to others who don't regularly fly.

Give Virgin a call and explain you bid for an upgrade - which was a success and they'll refund. This can be later in the week after the flights. 1 hour prior? Plenty of time. You'll have enough time for a coffee and something to eat in the lounge.

You'll typically hear back a few hours prior on MEL-SYD routes. Sometimes it happens a few days before but rarely in my experience. I would expect you'll hear about your return trip sometime tonight or tomorrow. Don't forget to reclaim the economy X fees if you paid for them on the original...
