Scheduled to return to a direct flight next weekend.

Airline of The Year 2024 predictions

Skytrax top airline has been shared between exclusively between Qatar, Emirates, Singapore and Cathay since inception, with two exceptions. Asiana in 2010 and……. very surprisingly British Airways in 2006. Kind of shocked with that one, but in the World Travel Awards Top Airline BA took out the...

New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

QF have said multiple times that the PER-LHR will remain, in fact will be upgraded to an A350 when they’re available. https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/qantas-perth-london-project-sunrise-a350#:~:text=Qantas'%20Project%20Sunrise%20fleet%20of,current%20Boeing%20787%20in%202026. There’s...

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

BA were Skytrax’s “Airline of the Year” every year from 1994-2007 bar one. Now they rate lower than QF on the rankings. It is interesting to note that although QF dropped to 17th on that list that’s still 17th in the world out of a lot of other competitors, they rank higher than such...

CEO retiring, what changes at Qantas would you like to see

Dominates domestic market with no real competitor for the foreseeable future. Even more dominant on the regional front. International finally profitable after many years of poor returns. More competitors but QF flights are still quite full and generally have good load factors on the routes they...

CEO retiring, what changes at Qantas would you like to see

I don’t know exactly what specific values are being referred to. But as the national carrier they do have a part to play in promoting national culture. I find the addition of things like an acknowledgment of country on landing (the best place for it to be acknowledged), the using of dual names...

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

The topic of fatigue management in pilots is a complex topic that takes many variables from different sources, usually after scientific studies on performance. That pilot could potentially have been operating flights back of the clock, have come off reduced rest prior to that duty etc. What if...

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

The provision in the EA is there for safety. To ensure that a pilot has as comfortable as a seat as possible before going from paxing to operating a flight. To reduce the likelihood of fatigue. Such things are specified in EAs.

    Ask The Pilot

I honestly wouldn’t care and the choice of either aircraft’s safety would never factor into a choice of flight. The difference in risk of you not getting home safely between each type is so low it totals 0.07 per million flights vs 0.09 per million, making the 737NG (-600 to -900) slightly safer...

    Ask The Pilot

That doesn’t necessarily indicate that the aircraft operates to a lower level of safety or people should have reservations flying on one. The systems may not be as new as newer aircraft but they get the job done and are reliable, the 738 having a very high dispatch reliability. I don’t think...

    Ask The Pilot

The AIII mode on the HUD works very well. One of the best capabilities the HUD gives to the 738. No problems at all with safety, many crew would prefer it over a 737 Autoland, which doesn’t always provide the smoothest or most stable touchdown. There are better failure warning systems with the...

    Jetstar Perth taser incident

Doesn’t matter if he wasn’t aggressive initially. The cabin crew make a lawful order, he must obey it. If he doesn’t then police are going to come. If he resists then he become aggressive, and they can use whatever means they think they need to to escort him out.

    Qantas to increase fleet utilisation

A220 later this year, A321XLR sometime in 2025 pending any further Airbus delays. Problems with utilisation: A lot of the fleet is older, requiring more maintenance. Supply chain issues re Covid and China disruptions are still in effect and will take months to be back to 2019 standards. Added...

Is the ABC not Good Enough for QF?

About 70% of Australians use the ABC in radio, TV or digital format at least once per week. Sky’s viewers? Well their prime time TV gets about 30,000 viewers per night (0.1% of the population), and their YouTube views on Australian topics usually only get a few thousand views. So Qantas has...

Is the ABC not Good Enough for QF?

QF doesn’t have any agreement with anyone but the ABC to provide news content. Probable guess - the ABC news broadcast on the flight had a segment about Chinese New Year, and used file footage from the Chinese broadcaster. When this happens that broadcaster’s logo is displayed on the screen...

New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

Bumping this up, have the new PER-SIN flights been loaded into the system yet? I can’t see them available for booking until March next year. When were they meant to start? I had heard before this Christmas.

New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

Qantas said that the same constraints mean Qantas will not start its planned Perth-Jakarta service and instead plans to increase its Perth-Singapore services from seven flights a week to 10 flights per week, all through T3. Would that mean the 737 slated to do the CGK flight is just repurposed...

New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

More biosecurity requirements coming from Africa as opposed to London. ABF weren’t willing to provide more staff, or physical space in T3 wasn’t suitable for the extra requirements needed to process passengers from Indonesia or Africa. I also believe this is why there was no problem with Rome...

New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

Qantas won’t be moving to T1 until their eastern domestic terminal has been built. The Perth Airport 2020 Master Plan said this should happen by December 2025, but as always delays will happen. I agree in the meantime it’s just better to schedule more international flights out of T3 to justify...

New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

Yeah I did notice that. The route becomes a midday departure from Perth and an evening arrival back into Perth from March. My thought was that the overnight timing was to take advantage of the low utilisation of aircraft during night hours.
