    Avianca Brazil flights cancelled

Sucks to hear about those who hold current Avianca Brazil tickets, sorry guys :( If you need an alternative for domestic flights in Brazil I would highly recommend Azul, they go pretty much everywhere an the have a lovely smaller Embraer jets with 2-2 seatings which is super comfortable. Their...

Qantas First Class "Nothing more than a premium business class"

On the overnight SQ SIN-SYD flights? I used to catch those every couple of weeks and I was always puzzled why people would want to stay up 1.5 hrs after takeoff to eat dinner at like 11:30pm local time on departure, and then wake up 2 hrs before arrival to eat breakfast at like 4am new local...

Qantas First Class "Nothing more than a premium business class"

Ah, no, Singapore Airlines is majority owned by Singapore's sovereign wealth fund Temasek as a long-term investment. The other 45% of the ownership is publicly listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. With this capital structure it would make no sense for the Singapore government to subsidise SQ...

Qantas First Class "Nothing more than a premium business class"

With fully-flat 1-2-1 seating in business becoming (blessedly) more or less a standard globally, the marginal benefit to the previous generation of F products has decreased such that the carriers have to either: 1) give up on F and phase it out with the next wave of cabin refits or 2 ) do...

    Hong Kong for Solo Traveller

It's traditional Thai food in Isaan province! And also very popular in Bangkok. I guess it's a matter of taste but I find Isaan style Thai food much fresher, tastier and healthier than the standard Thai fare we get in Australia (also, if this is imaginable, spicier!) Chachawan is some of my...

    Hong Kong for Solo Traveller

I had dumplings for breakfast today at Heart to Heart in Wan Chai and it was incredibly good - highly recommended. Also Chachawan for Thai food in Sheung Wan. I wrote the below before I saw that you'd already booked but thought I'd include in case it's useful for anyone else in the future: I...

    BKK Departure Tax

That is a weird thing for Thai Airways to say, the departure tax at BKK was disbanded years ago.

Redemption from IST temporarily unavailable online?

I was seeing routing via Frankfurt (!) when I looked last week. Haven't looked at the new award chart yet but 45k SIN-IST in 1-2-1 business class was a really good deal.

New landside transit hotel at SIN - YotelAir Changi

Would be intrigued to know how anyone would get landside in Singapore without clearing immigration - if that's what you're saying?

singapore tips, hints and tricks - need yours

The only good thing about MBS as a hotel is the pool. The lower room categories have the charm of a mid-range airport hotel. I have not seen the suites they give to high rollers although I suspect they would be a lot nicer, however anyone that has that kind of money to throw around would do much...

Bali (Indonesia in general) [NOT] to be Visa free for Australians from Jan 2015

Re: Bali (as well as Indonesia in general) to be Visa free for Australians from Jan Not sure how much of a difference this will make for Australians in terms of waiting times at DPS (Bali). You'll still get stuck in the immigration lines, just no the VOA line. Although the VOA process was not...

    Suggestions for Koh Samui

I have stayed a total of around 2 weeks at the Conrad Koh Samui and my advice would be to just stay at the hotel and make the most of it, especially if you're only there for 4 days. The Conrad is really quite remote and it's a decent drive to get anywhere. Koh Samui is not exactly a fun place...

Kuala Lumpur Best Exec Lounge Hotels Advice please

Personally I reckon the IC and the Ritz Carlton have the best club lounges in Singapore. I did not like the Conrad's at all.

Kuala Lumpur Best Exec Lounge Hotels Advice please

The MO is one of the few decent hotels in KL that I haven't stayed at, largely because as you say the rooms looks like they desperately need a renovation. Some of the rooms still have those disgusting bedspreads! Yuck. Unbelievable for an MO. According to the MO GM's comments on TripAdvisor...

Best hotels in SIN and HKG for AUD200

I tried the Scarlet once and it was TERRIBLE. Like so bad. Tiny room run-down room with no windows and worn carpet, on top of what sounded like a night club going late into the night. Maybe I was just unlucky but seriously, would never try it again. Having said that it's location is exceptional...

Kuala Lumpur Best Exec Lounge Hotels Advice please

Not exactly addressing the OP's question but answering on KL hotels generally in case it's useful for anyone: +1 to the Grand Hyatt recommendation. It is close to brand new, modern, great location, good service, the view from the lobby is spectacular... and certainly one of the best options out...

    Accommodation in Singapore question

Are you travelling alone / with partner / with kids? The Quincy is ok and pretty good value for money but the rooms are very small and really designed for solo travellers.
