travel from united states to australia

Hell yes. Anything but Ipswitch! Whenever my partner and I are in BNE for family stuff, we simply escape to a nice city hotel. The Hilton is our choice, but YMMV. We like it for the very comfy beds, air conditioning, coughtails, laid back but good service and nearby restaurants. It's our...

    QF v VA Premium Econ

I can't vouch for the VA product, but QF Y+ is good. With your height you should go for a bulkhead, which would give you the leg space you need. I've done QF Y+ in a bulkhead and found it nicely roomy.

    Q. regarding shipping laptop with lithium battery from the US

You could try a delivery service like myus.com. The U.S. retailer can ship it there by road (they're based in Florida) and then they use a carrier like FedEx or DHL to send it out here. You will have to pay a premium on top of your shipping (IME, usually around $10 or so) to cover handling of...

The joy of alcohol on planes

Really? Although alcohol is among the offerings, I never felt it was being foisted on me. My partner only drinks alcohol at specific times of the day and he's never felt pressured to drink, nor had any attitude or problems with getting a non alcoholic beverage.

    Paid AFF

Absolutely worth the price of admission and then some. Initially I got it for the discount to QP but I've kept it up because I like to support AFF for what I've learned here. And the bag tags and discounted membership to other flying sites have also made it worth it.

The joy of alcohol on planes

Well, I can tell you now with my new international experience in J (SYD-LAX and the reverse) that a 'four or so boozes rule' holds me in good stead. One in the lounge with a snack, one (maybe two) bubbles on boarding, one with a meal on the plane, plus a nightcap and a mild sleeping aid and I...

The joy of alcohol on planes

No particular issues. It was my first time in one and it was just a little harder and narrower than I'd expected. No big deal.

The joy of alcohol on planes

Ok, I can tell you now. I had a glass of white in the lounge, champagne on boarding, another champagne pre-dinner, glass of red with dinner and a generous cognac after dinner. It affected me not a jot. I could have drunk more, but did not feel so inclined. Would have had another cognac if...

    Entry to USA

Yeah. And by the time we do that he'll have done two other domestic flights, so he'll be an old hand. The anxiety leading up to the trip was far worse than anything he actually encountered. I thought it might be like that. So far he's loving the US - and he's only seen Hollywood Blvd around...

    Entry to USA

Welp. We came off QF11 yesterday. Our experience was much the same as yours, what with the staff pointing out lines for ESTA, kiosks, etc, but I didn't view it as negative at all. I found it quite civilized and the directions were clear and easy to follow. My partner (the notorious nervous...

    Entry to USA

Yikes. Good to know. I'm on QF11 tomorrow. I'll let you know if it's any different for us. Just out of interest, what class were you flying?

The joy of alcohol on planes

Domestic, I'll have a glass or two if with a meal, or if it's a PM flight on a Friday afternoon after a long week. International in J... I'll let you know after Tuesday.

    New York - Airports

LGA is an absolute sh!thole for flying out, but for flying in would be ok for the reasons already given. I don't know JFK well, but I'd be prepared to fly out of there if I allowed enough time to get there. I kinda like coming in from ERW. It's like being in the opening credits for The Sopranos.

How far out do you start booking your overseas holiday

I love the planning stage too. In the case of my latest trip (to the U.S. for a friend's birthday) she invited me a year ago, giving me lots of notice. It meant that when QF had their J companion sale in January, I was able to jump in and book flights that were still pretty earlybird at that...

Anniversary Trip To USA Any Tips

That said, I've just recently read some things about Aulani and seen some pics. It looks absolutely gorgeous. There are plenty of luxury resorts that are couples only, but if you're taking kids this could be the best of both worlds. Adults only areas and entertainment, and plenty of things to...

Oh, you want to take up my legroom space...?

I would have pushed it back further under the seat with my foot. And if it came back again, looped the handle around my foot and pushed it under my seat, without impinging on the person behind me. I mean, it's not a big bag. Laughs ensue when pax in front tries to find bag and I play dumb.

What happens on the LAST flight?

Yeah. We always flew Ansett but the husband decided to book Compass. We managed to get on Australian Airlines flights.

What happens on the LAST flight?

No, but I was booked on a Compass flight for Christmas travel. Then they collapsed. :/
