AFF Review: Qantas 737 Trans-Tasman Economy Class (MEL-CHC)

Recently did a similar trip with the family, BNE-SYD-ZQN - QF503+QF121 - on the way over and ZQN-BNE (NZ261) on the way back. Costs approx $540pp and $400pp respectively. I can't do a similarly comprehensive review, but the NZ Air flight was the hands-down winner. Admittedly I was a bit...

VA cancels all NZ flights up until NOV22

Yeah, I was equal parts disappointed and amazed they didn't restart at least BNE-ZQN or SYD-ZQN to catch the current ski season. Now we're at the mercy of QF to get there in September  (NZ on the way home).

New TRS rules? Goods no longer included in cap?

I was under the impression you couldn't apply depreciation to TRS claims on re-entry. That's backed up by a post on OzBargain (Tourist Refund Scheme - FAQ) though obviously that's not an authoritative source. How long were you gone ? Surely they wouldn't accept more depreciation than you'd be...

VA cancels all NZ flights up until NOV22

I am VA Plat - 4x UpgradeMe from Economy to Business. There's an offer on until the end of June to use them on Freedom (?) fares as well as the usual Flex. (Unless they've changed the rules again, but a quick look suggests they're still valid for trans-Tasman flights.)

VA cancels all NZ flights up until NOV22

I am ready to pull the trigger pretty much immediately, if they do. Accommodation already booked. :) ⛷️

VA cancels all NZ flights up until NOV22

Now that NZ is opening up to Australians from April, here's hoping they put on at least some weekend flights to/from ZQN and CHC. Pretty keen to hit the snow there in June/July and would love to be able to take advantage of my UpgradeMe's before they expire.

Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

Just looked this up as a matter of curiosity and it's 2 years.

Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

We recently renewed our kids passports - was hoping to get them to a week at the snow in NZ before the current COVID outbreak shut that idea down - and one was turned around in 2 days, the other in 3. Application submitted at the post office on a Tuesday afternoon. Notified the first was ready...

    Current US Credit Card offers

Not entirely on-topic for an Oz forum but I know there are a bunch of people here who keep an eye on this sort of thing, so... I have a sizeable chunk of money still in the USA from when I used to live there, and some significant upcoming expenses (replace current car, house renovations) which...

ANZ QFF Black 75,000 bonus with no annual fee 1st year -only $2500 spend 1st 3 months

That is pretty rubbish. 19,650 points get you a $100 Woollies GC, which is about as poor a value conversion as there is.

    NBN Discussion

In our previous house I was on a 100/40 plan with ABB. Since we were literally a stone's throw from the pillar, the modem actually synced up at about 150/50. At the time I was able to saturate both down and uplinks. I used to keep a Plex server at home I'd stream from while travelling, and...

No. It is the difference between creating an organisation whose objective is to deliver a service vs an organisation whose objective is to be profitable.

    NBN Discussion

I think you are missing the point. Complaining that public utilities are no better than private companies, using an example of an organisation that was essentially setup from the get-go to operate like a private company (just one that happened to be bankrolled by the public) is not really a...

Nobody should be under any illusions that NBN was setup or intended to be a public utility. It was called NBN Co. for a reason.

Car seats for kids - opinions

No they don't. We're taking the seats regardless for exactly that reason - I'm just trying to decide if there's any point in putting the kids in them on the plane. Definitely leaning towards "no" at this point.

Car seats for kids - opinions

Yeah, ours have the necessary stickers for use in Australia + instructions.

Car seats for kids - opinions

Comfort was the main reason - if they did fall asleep they'd have some head/body support rather than just lolling all over the seat. That said we are in J so they'll probably be able to just curl up on the seat itself. There's also containment - they can't undo the car seat buckle but I've...

Car seats for kids - opinions

Hi, folks, I'm after some opinions on whether or not it's worth dragging car seats onto the plane to use when flying with kids. We have 3yo (as of a couple of days ago) twins and are heading from Brisbane down to Melbourne & surrounds for a holiday at the end of the week. We're flying VA down...

    NBN Discussion

It's not really that surprising when you understand that Australia is a big land mass, but nearly completely empty. We are one of the most urbanised societies on the planet. Our population is not widely geographically distributed - something like 80% of the population lives in ten cities and...
