    Train or plane in Germany

Hopefully I can be of some help, I've just returned from Europe with train travel between Prague and Munich and then Munich to Zurich. Prague to Munich train was operated by the Czech train authority CD (blue trains). Wife and I travelled with reserved seats in Economy. We found the train...

Collection of baggage for overnight transit

My wife is returning to Australia on EK408 (on a Qantas ticket) into MEL, then will stay in Mel overnight at an airport hotel and then departing the next morning on a Qantas domestic flight. I have told her that she will collect baggage for customs as per normal and then she will need to hang...

    Amora Wellington, NZ

From others that I knew in Wellington at the same time, it was the nicest accommodation out of 4 others who were staying elsewhere. I'm sure you'll enjoy the time there. Te Papa is a minutes walk away and I highly recommend an afternoon spent looking there. Apart from that, dress to stay warm in...

    Amora Wellington, NZ

Sorry for late feedback! I had stayed at the Amora back in December. Generally, a nice hotel. Some room features may seem a touch dated, but a few newer touches in the rooms makes them look more modern. Rooms were clean, wifi was OK. Location, is a bit out of the main strip but a nice 5-10...

    QR thoughts

Just booked flights on QR for my honeymoon in October! Flying the new A350 from Adelaide to Doha, connect to Budapest (which I understand is an A320?). Then return from Paris to Doha, Doha to Adelaide again on the A350. All flights booked in Y but as someone who loves to travel, I am just...

    NZ departure tax?

Thanks all, just as I suspected.

    NZ departure tax?

I think I know the answer but would like the brains trust to confirm. Am I correct in stating they have abolished the NZ departure tax? Departing from WLG in the next few weeks but not having been to NZ for some years I was unsure, the internet provides conflicting reports.

    Finnair int'l J: pre-ordered meals

FWIW, I did try Reindeer in Helsinki. I'd say it was fantastic. Not too gamey at all, you could easily eat it daily as a substitute for any red meat.

    2015 F1 Thread

With the RBR chassis, a Ferrari engine that may be just a touch lower on power than the factory team and with RIC and KVY both driving well enough to extract as much time as possible out of the cars, I think they would really be back in the mix, up there with the Ferrari factory team, Mercedes.

New Train service between Helsinki airport and city centre

Only in Finland, a hotel room with a sauna. Enjoy the heat! I had a room with a sauna in Kuopio, nightly saunas were a must.

    Trans Tasman Sale Fares?

I should have pointed out, travel will be right at the start of the month and not in the Christmas travel period, but I'm still worried that the price will only increase from now until then given it is that time of year. I'm just about set to purchase now and hope no sale comes in. I thought...

    Trans Tasman Sale Fares?

Am I being naïve in waiting out for a Qantas or Air New Zealand/Virgin Australia sale for fares to Wellington in December? On one hand, I haven't seen a Trans Tasman sale for some time, but then again the period in December being so close to Christmas why would they put sale fares on? My...

New Train service between Helsinki airport and city centre

I can give a big thumbs up to the airport Hilton. Clean, quiet rooms. Great views of the airport. Fantastic breakfast in the lobby. Well priced as well IIRC. My recommendation would be the Finnair bus, if you checkout the Hilton it's a short walk to the bus stop, pay your fare and then look out...

Requesting suggestions / advice for our SYD-SIN-HEL-(AMS)-HKG-SYD trip next year

The beauty of Finlandia Hall is that it's very close to the hub of the city, close to restaurants, shops, it's also on the tram line in and out of the city which is handy. IIRC, the Crowne Plaza (although away from the city in proximity to the Hall) is very close and may be worth a look. But...

Requesting suggestions / advice for our SYD-SIN-HEL-(AMS)-HKG-SYD trip next year

Helsinki is a lovely city, the trams make it easy to get around. Where are you staying in Helsinki? As a sports buff, I found the Olympic Stadium and Sports Museum fascinating. A lot of history within that area.

    2015 F1 Thread

Lack of FTA coverage and an early start = me missing what seems to be the best race of the year. Very happy for the RBR boys with their first podiums (And DK's first ever podium). Felt bad for Kimi, leading and what possibly looked like a race he could win and take all the heat off him from...

1st Visit to New York & Yes I am a Tourist

My 2 cents - ride the subway. Cheapest, easiest way to get around. Quintessential New York transport. For the price of a 7 day pass, it will pay for itself and then some. Even riding a little later in the evening, the masses are still out, you won't be the only person riding the subway so do...

    2015 F1 Thread

Ferrari's pit stop plan was the winner, not their speed. I think Mercedes will still comfortably win most races, save for any incidents. First time in a long time both Torro Rosso cars placed ahead of RBR. Hats off to Max, looks the real deal and still so young. I wish I was doing what he is...

    2015 F1 Thread

The new NSX was a lovely looking machine. Walked into the Honda tent on the Thursday and it was covered up, came back on the Sunday and have a good look. As others have said, not the most entertaining race to view with so many failing to start. Was good to see the support from Aussie fans for...

Train or plane Washington DC to New York City

Can +1 for both the train to DC and the Marriott Metro Centre. I took the NE Regional Train which although was slower than the Acaela (only by 30 minutes) was a nice ride and not as full as the Acaela which made seating and luggage easy. I didn't use the Red Cap service and given the light load...
