    10 hour layover in AUH

Definitely get out of the airport! Even if you had lounge access it's not worth spending 10 hours there. If you are an Aussie citizen its a "visa on arrival" - in reality this means stand in a queue and an unsmiling immigration official will stamp your passport without question, and without need...

    Slightly complicated points jumble

I presume that you mean that you are doing the MEL-DXB leg on QF, then the DXB - GLA on EK? You can't use points from one program to upgrade on the other airline's plane, regardless of which codeshare number you booked under. As above, you can't pool between programs, and you don't have enough...

    Where to Get Euro Coins

Don't take EURO coins - complete waste of time, effort and weight. Take small Euro bills (20s, 10s, 5s) for larger payments (Mass Games, other excursions, dog soup) and don't be the jackass on my tour who had a stash of 500 Euro bills and was upset no one in the DPRK could change them (I didn't...

New Hilton Sale 30% Off Selected Hotels

That offer is specific to "resorts" - I don't think Melbourne counts, sadly!

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Another F1 weekend... and my delightful (!!!!) 0245 BA departure from Abu Dhabi to Heathrow featured Mr Mark Webber in First, with Red Bull Team Boss Christian Horner and racecar design legend Adrian Newey also there. Same flight featured many many F1 people in all classes including most of the...

Virgin Australia goes fully inclusive on PER flights

Yesterday's PER-SYD (DJ556) offered a choice of Penne Pasta and Mild Beef Curry in Y. I had the beef, not too bad! Even better was the 35g bar of Lindt Milk Chocolate that came with it. Less good was the rock hard bread roll...

    AFF Medical Meet?

Since the motorsport calendar is now largely confirmed, I can say that the weekends of 2/3 March and 9/10 March are good for me, since the 16/17th and 23/24th are F1 races  30/31st is also motorsport-free but no idea what country I will be in that week...

    Toilets?

A topless donut store? What's the point? The top half is the best part of the donut, what with the icing and other toppings!

    Toilets?

North Korea had some shockers, and none that were good! No water, no light (natural or otherwise), lots of 'misses' especially in the squats, live squirming maggots and worms at the bottom of the reeking pit... and my fave, 2 slabs of cement with a gap between them, perched precariously on the...

Virgin Australia goes fully inclusive on PER flights

Penne pasta or roast chicken, apparently - can't tell you anything about it as I slept through the meal service! I think it'll be interesting to see how often the meal choices rotate, as it looked to be a single menu in Business for all Coast-to-Coast flights - a choice of 3 mains on eastbound...

Virgin Australia goes fully inclusive on PER flights

Flew PER-SYD on 27th but used my comp upgrade so can only comment on J meal (lamb shank - very tasty!) however on the 10 am SYD-PER so will provide an update in a few hours time.... unless the op-up Gods shine on me at the gate!

Strangest thing you've seen someone carry onto a plane/train/bus/ferry ?

Strangest thing I saw was a bloke with a 2.5 seater sofa on the train in Perth. Predated the ticket gates, he managed to get it down the escalator, along the platform and halfway through the doors before the transit police stopped him. Ironically they probably would have let him go with it...

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

I flew out the day after the masses - the only other person I saw around was Damon Hill (former F1 world champion), however there was much excitement from the middleaged British journos the night before I flew when they were sharing the QF lounge with Bananarama! (I would have had to google...)...

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

I presume still CL as met by a QF staffer to escort through security (BoganAir - Denpasar AirAsia flight - had landed just before us). Heaps of status people flying thru SIN over F1 weekend so I presumed either an error or ran out of First tags

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

On QF72 SIN-PER arriving this morning, John (and Janette) Howard at the baggage carousel. Wasn't sure it was him (taller and a bit younger-looking than expected!) but saw his bag tags which read "Hon J Howard"! Also amused that his bags were Business tagged whislt mine were First tagged...

    Best/Worst Kebab you've found at 2am?

For all you know, the weird-tasting meat actually was an Arab, and the name was more accurate than you gave it credit for :mrgreen:

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Sorry Lindsay, I am not sure I'd recognise him even after reading the article and seeing him on TV, and had never heard of him prior to Sunday!

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Landed into SYD yesterday and entered the arrivals hall to much cheering and singing. I felt very DYKWIA! (apparently some bloke who kicks a round ball for a living was on the flight too.... ESPN ruined my delusions of grandeur)
