Update - I rang the call centre and they said there was a "system error". I shouldn't have been able to make the booking so they are refunding the $60 fee. They also gave me an aisle seat which I'm grateful for!

Good news! Hilton restored my points and set up a new account number for me. Very pleased with that service and outcome :)
