I've been checking flights syd-hnl but there's none available after late October. Does this mean the route is being discontinued, or jetstar is being lazy? I thought they'd be sold around 12 months beforehand.

I think mythbusters found that without assistance your chances are not good. If you can figure out the radio and get talked through the landing you should be able to do it. Considering the probable scenario of not doing anything is a crash, you wouldn't make the situation any worse by having a go.

Checking your baggage through shouldn't be a problem. Just show the AA staff your e-ticket details (not just the pnr). Keep your baggage reciepts. I'm not sure about the BPs, but you probably need to go to a qantas desk at LAX to show the bag reciepts and get the BPs.

It's all sorted now. I went up to the QC, they got my passport details and reissued my BP. Not having to get my baggage and recheck in has certainly saved alot of hassle.

I am now in DFW. I cleared us immigration in Toronto, so that is not an issue. Watching a BA flight board, they want connecting pax to go to the gate and check passports. That may be what I have to do.
