Bargains / must buys while in the USA

On a side note - I recall claiming the Sales Tax on my clothes shopping at the New Orleans Airport (Louisiana) on one of my trips several years ago. Not sure it's still available, but hang on to your receipts.

Annual fee waivers for second and subsequent years - the new normal?

I think it must earn Flybuys points, but I can't be certain as I don't use the card and can't remember the last time I used it. Have had the card for over 15 years, but it started out as a Standard card and was upgraded to Gold, then Platinum over the years. Focus of my spending is on Amex...

Annual fee waivers for second and subsequent years - the new normal?

Actually, the card is just branded "NAB Platinum Visa". I don't think it's linked to Qantas. I never used it, so don't really care. It's my emergency back up card.

Annual fee waivers for second and subsequent years - the new normal?

Are you aware that creditsavvy.com.au is a front for Aussie Home Loans (AHL)? I'd rather not give my details to them. They request the credit score from Experian anyway, so why not go straight to Credit Report Australia, Credit Check, Credit Rating | Free Credit Report BTW, Veda can give it...

Air New Zealand [Diverted to MEL, Self paid to SYD - reimbursement?]

Coincidentally, I was also flying the same day and my Virgin flight to Sydney was diverted to Canberra due to a weather related closure in Sydney. Virgin very quickly arranged Coaches to Sydney for those who wanted to get back to Sydney on the same day (albeit very late on Sunday night), but I...

Which FF program to reedem points on

If it is an option to wait, I would hold off on the Amex closure and points transfer until there is a Bonus offer available. At least a couple of times a year, Amex offer to provide a Bonus of between 10% and 30% points for transfer to its airline partners. I recall a 30% Bonus for transfers...

Suggestions sought for a beach holiday resort in Asia over Christmas / New Year

Try Sri Lanka. It's still relatively cheap, but prices are increasing as the secret gets out and the Europeans return. It's a top surfing destination and has some of the best Hotel Resorts in the world (especially in the small boutique segment, though some main chains like Hilton and Taj are...

"Enhancements" to MR earn on Platinum Card, Reserve & Centurian

Was charged $395 annual fee for my Reserve earlier this week. Called Amex, was put through to cancellations Dept when I only called to query the value of the card and was almost instantly offered a fee waiver - didn't even have to ask! Took no more than 5 minutes on the phone. My spend has...

    Plat charge courtesy call?

Maybe that is why you haven't received a call! Can't complain about not receiving the call when you've asked not be called!

Did you threaten to cancel the Amex card? Seems strange that "Amex rang...." you. Which card do you have?

"Enhancements" to MR earn on Platinum Card, Reserve & Centurian

I have now redirected all my utility spend (phone, internet, counciil rates, school fees, insurances etc) away from the Reserve card to the CBA Diamond Amex which still gives me 3 points per dollar (6 times more than the enhanced Reserve card). Even if the burn rate on the Diamond card is...

"Enhancements" to MR earn on Platinum Card, Reserve & Centurian

Re: "Enhancements" to Membership Rewards scheme for Platinum Card / Platinum Reserve I believe the Valet Parking discount expired months ago on 31st March 12 (though it is still promoted on the Amex website).

"Enhancements" to MR earn on Platinum Card, Reserve & Centurian

The GIO/AAMI/Suncorp/APIA Bonus offer expires 30 Sept 2012, so the disenhancment has no impact as it is effective the following day.

    Dual British and Australian passports

I too have an Aussie and EU passport and have a trip coming up to Ecuador and Gallapagos Islands. However, my Aussie passport will have less than 6 months validity when leaving Australia, so I was considering using the Aussie passport to leave Australia, the EU passport to enter/leave Ecuador...

Cheapest way to withdraw cash in the USA that I can arrange quickly

No, I cannot be certain that this benefit will be applied to Amex Travel Cards, but it's worth asking the question. Definitely applies to cash though.

Cheapest way to withdraw cash in the USA that I can arrange quickly

. The Amex Platinum Charge Card will get you the "preferred" exchange rate ánd no Fees at Amex Foreign Exchange Centres. These are usually located in some major Westpac Branches. I've used them for my last 2 or 3 US visits and found the rates are better than what I could find elsewhere...
