QF6001 and 6002 Syd to LAX tonight

Not hearing many planes from my Sydney home for past months so aircraft sound becoming a novelty. Heard a big plane yesterday and looked at Flightradar. Was QF6003 A380-842 SYD-VCV. I have done many flights in 380 Emerald City and will miss it.

    Cabin Temperatures?

Maybe impossible for temperature to please everyone on a plane. Even in bed at home I can be hot and my wife can be cold.

    Ask The Pilot

Hey JB747 - Have been reading your very interesting posts for years - Noting your comments about upcoming retirement after a lifetime of flying, what comments/suggestions could you make to someone considering starting a flying career? - Assuming a teenager has the interest in flight and maths...

    The view from my "office"

Notwithstanding no trains to Syd airport Sun 8 Apr and incredibly bad traffic jams to International terminal, the view of the ice from QF63 was not bad.

More Sydney Trains Services for Airport Line due to increasing patronage

On two separate occasions recently I checked in with minutes to spare for a once a day international flight, even though I had scheduled over an hour in the FLounge. Both times the traffic on the weekend to Sydney airport was at a standstill for the last few km's and added an hour in travel...

A sad goodbye to M*****0 (passport expiry)

Tip for first time you use the new passport with the automatic depart readers at Sydney airport. The machine may not read properly until the passport lies flat in the reader. Brand new passports tend to lie open like a slight peaked roof. After opening beyond 180 degrees a few times then...

    Ask The Pilot

Not sure if addressed previously but a question arising from a 747 flight Sydney to Santiago and a 787 return. I use my phone in flight mode with GPS Tracker app to record height, speed, route and on this occasion how far South latitude. My phone could receive from 8 or more GPS satellites on...

BNE-CAN-SHA - A Cheap Dash with CZ - but will it be Nasty?

Travelled SYD-CAN-CKG return recently in CZ J. I can confirm getting told by FA to turn off phone which was in flight mode when I attempted to take a photo on Sydney Opera House and bridge on descent toward the airport. CZ was also interesting in terms of half full shot glass for wine and very...

Business class - worth the points?

Similar to an earlier comment, age and size can be a determinant. As one gets older and heavier, and more aches and pains, then J seems more worth it.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Regarding the delayed QF25 Syd-Haneda that I was on, the pilot advised the delay was due to repairing a vibration in one of the engines. Needed some connector that took time to source. Plane was VH-OEF as got a good look when landed in Haneda and descended stairs and walked near plane going to...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Hi Quickstatus. Addressing taxi voucher, Qantas provided two Cabcharge Fastticket (Paywave) per person (one for from airport and one for return) Accommodation was option of Novatel inc $50 expenses (breakfast, etc). I am starting a 3 week trip so I went home to sleep in my own bed. A work...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Spent longer than expected in Flounge until QF25 Syd-Haneda was cancelled last night after repairs not done before curfew. Qantas were good on taxis, hotels but was a pain waiting for immigration then bags at carousel when I had only travelled as far as the lounge. But as they say, better...

How do people change into their pyjamas while flying International Business?

Similar to comment by Quickstatus, I prefer to delay change to PJ until in air and seat belt sign off. Running across a burning tarmac in bare feet and QF PJ's is not how I would want to evacuate should a takeoff problem occur.

GUAM: Visiting somewhere obscure for no apparent reason (NGO-GUM-KIX on UA J)

Have done the Sydney-Cairns-Guam return several times for work, most recently Oct13. The 0030 departure from Cairns with 0530 arrival into Guam on Continental 737 does not really result in an alert first morning. Tumon Bay now looks like what I guess Waikiki was like about 25 years ago in that...

Does Qantas have a record of points per FF since joining date?

Probably addressed sometime on some thread, but does Qantas have a record of points per FF since joining date? If so, then how might one get this info for ones self? Reason for asking is I guess I might have clocked up over 2 million points over twenty odd years but just wondering what it...

VS Drop SYD - Exit Australia

Re: Virgin Atlantic axing SYD to HKG While I understand Virgin Atlantic dropped the in flight massage some years ago, one of my most memorable flights was SYD-HKG-SYD with a massage each way. Very pleasant. As a related recollection, one of my mates had the "relaxing" massage (gentle) as...
