Order a Qantas "care pack" for $25

Given there's probably $15 in postage this is a nice little earner. I once had a pair of the PJs back on the day when you could get an international business class seat on points. They are thin and cheap but OK for a wear-once disposable. I noticed few passengers used them and most left them...

    Citibank Debit Card is Great.

No -- US $200 cash in hand, no fee.

    Citibank Debit Card is Great.

At every ATM I used in the US a fee was shown, but none was charged. No charge back on statement...just nothing at all.

Using points to pay for accommodation

I use points for domestic accommodation. Granted, it may not be the best use of points but it suits me. Overseas I generally use B&Bs and pensions, so points are out of the question.

A chance to reminisce - who remembers the "old days" of Travel?

Here's my earliest memory - 1958, Adelaide to Pt Lincoln. Seating 2 + 1. After takeoff the hostess brought round a tray of barley sugars for you to suck and make your ears pop. A cup of tea served in a china cup with a couple of Scotch Fingers. For take off and landing (at Lincoln) a chap stood...

New Ultimate Awards card (uncapped till May 2020)

Having looked deeper into the T&C it's not worth the trouble of changing unless you do a lot of overseas transactions. All I would get is 0.75 of a point extra on Woolworths and the like. As my Platinum card is fee-free there's no benefit there.

New Ultimate Awards card (uncapped till May 2020)

I'm the same position except my platinum card has zero fees as an accident of history (a decade ago it was a CPA Australia members' gold card). I think I'll take up the offer. Now I'm retired I'll never get over $10,000 a month.

    Qantas Frequent Flyer Account Hacked

I think you're on to something. I'm having Woolworths reward points automatically converted to Qantas points - and transfer occurred today.

    Qantas Frequent Flyer Account Hacked

Recently I've been receiving 2FA SMSs at odd hours when I haven't been trying to logon, e.g., this morning at 6:00 AM when I'm barely out of bed. I have a few of these over the past month. I checked my QFF account -- all is well - plus I changed my PIN. I assume someone is trying to hack my...

Latest Scams in Europe 2018 please

A scam of sorts, I guess, but I was in the Uzipio district of Riga earlier in the year taking in the Bohemian vibe when a local headed towards me, unsteady on his feet and many teeth missing. He reeked of alcohol and wanted money. Inconsistently he obviously had a job as he wore paint-spattered...

Latest Scams in Europe 2018 please

Surely the oldest scam going. Three years ago in Salt Lake City a reasonable looking young man said he'd lost his wallet and needed to get back to Texas urgently for his graduation. Could I lend him $25 for the bus fare? A few minutes later I came across him trying the same thing on a pair of...

Latest Scams in Europe 2018 please

I'm a little older and strongly prefer solo travel. Never had an issue. Being 187 cm helps, I think. A couple of times I've travelled with late 60s American friend. He seems to attract trouble.

Let The Music Play or NOT !

Talk about "whatever". I've never listed to onboard music. Qantas's classical offering was always lightweight and populist. An audiobook (a 12-14 hour story is more than enough for Europe and back) or my own music is fine.

Latest Scams in Europe 2018 please

Many years ago I tried that on a scammer in Leicester Square. Problem was he spoke fluent German and followed me for some distance nattering away. "Serves you right for being a smarty", said my then-fiancee.

    Help! Can’t get to sleep J & F

Ditto. A long as I have a few hours until the next meal or destination I take a 50mg diphenhydramine (1st generation sedating antihistamine) capsule at the same time. This prolongs the period of drowsiness. I wear hearing aids with custom fitted moulds. Turn off the aids and very little sound...

CBA enhances™ points earn ahead of interchange reduction

I used the Citibank Plus card exclusively while in the US in May. For all cash withdrawals, whether at a bank or independent ATM, the machine said a fee would be levied and indeed the fee was shown on the receipt. The fee was $3 to $5, i.e., $200 cash plus fee, $205 to be deducted from my...

CBA enhances™ points earn ahead of interchange reduction

Re: CBA enhances™ points earn ahead of interchange reducti I've had a Diamond Awards Mastercard card for years and due to an accident of history it's fee-free. I've always transferred points monthly into QFF but I was wondering it would be better to leave points in CBA and redeem them through...
