    Locking luggage

I have used TSA locks and had them cut off. Mongrels. Then the last time that I bothered, I had a TSA lock through the interlocking zipper loops on a Samsonite bag, and the coughs cut the loops off the zips (they could have just cut the TSA Lock as before)! It cost me a new set of zips,, so...

Whats the best USA sim card deal at the moment?

Try Red Pocket. A colleague used it in Fairfax VA in May and then I used it a month later in Las Vegas NV. You need to pre-arrange to have it delivered to your hotel. It uses the AT&T network, so coverage is good. Go Red Pocket | Unlimited cell phone plans | Prepaid wireless phones

Whats the best USA sim card deal at the moment?

Willie - What handset are you using? My understanding is that the USA 4G - LTE bands are not supported on Australian handsets (I have a Nokia 925).

    British Airways PE

My experience was about 3 years ago. I flew SYD/JFK in J. then waited in the BA lounges (both coughpy) for about three hours and flew to LHR and onward to Jeddah in PE. Syd/LHR was in a 747. Run down cabin, broken footrest. Y meal. However, I was so tired that I actually slept for a change...

    Home Network Attached Storage

I've had a QNAP T490 for 2.5 years. I'm thrilled with it, and the IT guys who support our system drool over it. It has 4 x 1Tb HDDs in a RAID 5 array, which gives you 2.68Tb available. It is easy to replace drives on the fly (you do one at a time) - but I've not had to do that. Next year I...

What laptop do you travel with?

The new Lenovo X1 has DSP keyboard noise cancelling technology, so they'll never know!

What laptop do you travel with?

Yes, liquids spilt on the keyboard will drain out the bottom - in my case, a Qantas milk portion. At the office i use the displayport to connect to to a Dell ultrasharp at 1920x1200 resolution. wonderful. And as an aside, the cooling system manifold design was based on the Owl's wing...

What laptop do you travel with?

Two years ago, after 20 years of carrying heavy laptops, i treated myself to a Lenovo X301. As I touctype, the great Lenovo keyboard is worth it. I went wiht the SSD wich is wonderful, and run AutoCAD and vidCAD on the road, so I need a real laptop although large 3D models are slow. Am...

    ATM use Saudi/ JED

I agree, having been there a few times. I used Amex and Visa/Mastercard, got money out of ATMs etc. Generally do not use/need much cash.

QF to launch SYD DFW from 16 May and axe SFO

I go to Orlando on alternate years. I would much rather transit DFW than LAX (if not doing an RTW via London). The main downer is that the 388 is not doing the new route.

    QF Premium Economy

I did SYD/LHR return (QF1/QF32) two weeks ago - booked Y+ 48 hours before flight and pressed the upgrade button. Got the outbound J seat confirmed about 18 hours before the flight, and on the way back, J seat confirmed again about 15 hours before departure. Being WP probably helped, but...

    Qantas to recommence A380 services

I came back on QF32, departing LHR Thurs 2nd Dec. Wheels up was delayed one hour due to snow: Waiting for cargo being road-freighted Additional flights that were diverted from Gatwick, which had been closed by then. J class cabin had a few empty seats (6-8?) on Syd/Sin sector, and then about...

Metal Knives Are Back on QF

Last year? BA have been using metal between LHR, JFK, MIA, BOS for a few years. Their FA's have told me that Qantas had a huuuge stock of plakky knives and were determined to use them up. Go figure - If LHR/JFK isn't terrorist heaven, I don't know what is.

    Qantas to recommence A380 services

Cannot do QF31, but I'm coming back on QF32 on Wed and whilst it had shown as a 747 when booked last week, it is now showing as the A380. Happy to do a reportlet on QF32.

    Qantas vs Emirates

There are two guys in this office who are top level SQ flyers doing lots of Asia and Middle East flights - always J. Both have had a number of bad experiences with Emirates J in the last two years and will never fly with them again. The problems were not just the poor in-flight service.

    New Look QF FF Cards

I like that fact that the Platinum card is not going to be dark brown anymore. Last year I was flying from Kuwait to London and was sent to the Gold lounge ( a shared one which OW uses). They scrutinised my card and said sorry, it has to be Gold or higher. I explained that Qantas thought...

Upstairs or Downstairs on 747 ?

I agree with NM. I get an aisle seat in the centre three, and often enough, the middle seat is empty. Having said that, I got back yesterday from SYD/LAX /SYD in J on an A380. the upstairs J is fantastic - IMHO - better than SQ's offer.
