@MEL_Traveller - if you did move to cash then I hope you moved it back yesterday. Today is not the sort of 'up' day you want to miss. We are living in a period of absolutely unprecedented volatility.

The US is now raising tariffs to China to 104%. It is difficult to keep up. I hope the iPhone stocks app is updated to include tariff levels as they are changing so frequently. Oh and US stocks and the AUD are rapidly retreating again. I suppose normality will return one day.

Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

I am avoiding the US for now. There are plenty of countries I haven't yet visited and I would rather try some of them at the moment.

Yes I realise that :). If the market for US Treasuries softens due to a buyers strike they will be issued at higher interest rates to get them away which means US Government will pay more to finance its debt. This is one lever China could employ in retaliation for the tariffs.

China is one of the biggest holders of US Treasuries. If they stopped buying them life could get even more interesting (pun intended). I don't know what the alternative destination for those funds would be though as China doesn't want the CNY to go up.

Super funds (like managed funds) are priced forward - you get the price after your request is received, not at the time it is received (which is a historical price) so if you request to switch today it will take place after the price for today is calculated which will be after markets close...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Even the weakish pound went up 3% v AUD yesterday and the UK economy is in much worse state than Australia.

Cyclone Donald still over Wall Street - another 5-6% decline overnight. China not helping by having the temerity to implement 'countermeasures' of 34% tariff on US goods and restricting rare earths (to everyone not just US). Unless sanity is restored over the weekend I feel confident to...
