My Father, being a former Wireless/Air Gunner in the RAAF in WWII spent a week or so there around 1952(?) when there was a world air race from London to Sydney from memory. He was the radio contact for the aircraft in the race. We live in Perth and I guess he may have gone via Christmas Island...
