    Aircraft Downgrade

It will be interesting to see what timeframe they have for those -700 J conversions, considering they were for the FIFO market and replacing the F100s.

Virgin Voyages Access Keys for 79,999 points on the Velocity Store

Had a look at this last night and it was a fair bit of variability between what an access key bought you - you could get a 3-night cruise, plenty of 4-5 night cruises and one 6-night cruise. Going to pass on it for the moment, but will be interested to see what others think.

    Maintained Platinum Early - Questions!

My transition from SG to WP I'd say it took 6-8 weeks...such that I rang VA and they sent a second set.

They do, but they take their sweet time

Choice Fares - No more free changes > 14 days [Bookings from 1st Sep]

Surely someone in Bain would have looked at this and calculated whether the $$ stacked up. Perhaps the sums were right to make the change.

    One point rewards promo??

Even though I turned on notifications, I was still too slow on each occasion 😪😪

Choice Fares - No more free changes > 14 days [Bookings from 1st Sep]

Quite interesting that when I was in the US in July/August, UA were promoting that they didn't charge fees to change your flights because "life happens". Unfortunately it's not like there's enough competition in the Australian market for that to take off.

    Are Jetstar really that bad??

Against my better judgement (but working with the judgment of my wallet) for a reasonably short notice trip to SYD for family I am flying JQ BNE-NTL in a fortnight's time. Whilst the 6K QFF points + $38 taxes was a reasonable expense, I'm also not expecting anything more than get on, fly, get...

What's the deal with Air North flying Virgin routes?

VA has had AirNorth doing this for them for a while now - I had a BNE-TSV leg in June that was on them. No J on board, however the first 2-3 rows are J seats...selectable in the same way that the VA E-Jets were when they flew routes with no J offered (BNE-ROK, BNE-ISA). Unless you'd booked a J...

Virgin Australia UpgradeMe pricing and success

Datapoint for Upgrade me - bid the minimum of $80 for VA361 (BNE-TSV), cleared at T-24. Only 5/8 in J filled and 6 seats were available at T-48, so I'm guessing at least 2 others were upgrades as well.

In the BNE lounge until 545 ish, can guest 3. Breakfast is scrambled eggs and Ham & Cheese hash browns...

    One point rewards promo??

One per week might be to get the successful punters to stop reloading the site on a semi-regular basis and reduce website load?? Mind you, not sure if anyone else would actually think along those lines... 😑

I'm in the VA Lounge thread

In SYD until VA965 departs (1700 delayes to 1845 at this stage), can guest 2. Lunch is still on offer - penne pasta with tomato sugo, chicken & corn soup, or periperi chicken sandwiches. Pretty quiet and a nice view out onto the tarmac as always 😎

I've found that the barista made coffee is reasonably good without being outstanding...admittedly full cream milk can cover a multitude of sins! Mrs Hawk has almond milk and unfortunately her experience is a bit less consistent than mine 🤷‍♂️

I'm in the VA Lounge thread

It's been like that the last few times I've been in BNE in the AM... I'm guessing that's what works for them....unfortunately a fair few peeved punters who quit the queue though 😑

I'm in the VA Lounge thread

BNE lounge at 0515 is a bit busy - pupil-free day here in QLD for some strange reason, so unofficial long weekend for some 😑 Coffee line gets a bit long as they take orders in runs then are making accordingly. No one using the automatic machine that's on the back beverage counter though - the...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

If you book via VA site it will be the VA codeshare number rather than the direct UA number. Fares may differ, and points/SC earned may differ: Points - United Airlines SC - United Airlines

    Edge vs Velocity Platinum

YMMV - at least the $200 can be used wherever you want, whereas for VA pax you've got to use it on their flights and it doesn't credit points or SC. From BNE I have pretty much any destination except for WA, so it's a sweet deal.

    Edge vs Velocity Platinum

The Virgin Platinum AMEX also provides the annual return flight, which on our side I use for Mrs Hawk (as she's Red and we pool points & SC to me) when we travel together. That benefit alone is worth ~$200+ as I'll generally use it on a BNE-MEL return.
