The Introverts return to New Caledonia

So for outside entertainment... We enjoyed the Stone Grill steak restaurant near the Hilton. Not cheap at all, but great local steak. We thought we should also try a "good" restaurant while we're there, so we had the hotel book us a table for dinner at a restaurant that has now since...

The Introverts return to New Caledonia

Instead of an airbnb, we chose a hotel as I wanted to be able to walk to a bakery, snack shop and the beach. We ended up at the Hotel Le Lagon, in a premium suite with a hot tub on the shaded balcony. The photos in their website are quite accurate. The hotel was very nice, and we spent some...

The Introverts return to New Caledonia

[Preface - this trip was in May, 2024. Things have changed in NC so don't rely on my TR for important information] Righto, finally writing this trip report. Funnily enough, as we get older we find ourselves with less holiday time - but more ... intense holidays. Both the schedules of myself and...

History - "Australian Airlines feature on Getaway"

One of those advertorial "day in the life" segments from the "Getaway" TV show. Follow the activities of a flight from Cairns to Japan on an Australian Airlines all-economy 767. Sorry, the video has to be watched on the YouTube website or app:

    The NSW TrainLink Discovery Pass

No. Discopass is NSW Trainlink trains only, not Sydney Trains. I understand your logic but it isn't possible.

    I'm on a watchlist...

Well, like most things in life - the simplest answer is the correct one. VA's reply was that there's someone else out there with my name on their list. Let's see what happens next time.

    I'm on a watchlist...

Check in today took twenty one minutes (I timed it from placing my bag on the belt). Chap at the check in counter couldn't run away from me fast enough. Sort of amusing in a way. Oh well, guess I'm writing a good old-fashioned letter to them next week to get to the bottom of all this.

    I'm on a watchlist...

No idea at the moment. Will fly again in the next week and will then let you all know how it goes. Nothing to do with that. But thanks for reminding me to write the TR. :)

    I'm on a watchlist...

No charge backs... never had an issue with VA staff...

    I'm on a watchlist...

No idea. Flew JQ last month, both flights were flawless. Not really, but will have a search around on the weekend.

    I'm on a watchlist...

Starting to fly a lot more again, so back to VA for a short domestic trip on the triangle. The machine for printing out the BP and tag says it can't do anything and to make myself known to a VA person. OK, I do that and they send me to the bag drop counter to check in. I'm a friendly person so...

    Bonza Airline Discussion

Here's an auction of various Bonza office items: https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/AuctionLots.aspx?stype=0&stypeid=0&kw=bonza&cid=0&smode=0&pgn=1&pgs=100 They didn't clean the whiteboards on the way out... I wonder why it takes much longer to turn around at Darwin?

    Troubles in Noumea

Sorry for being MIA after the event. Our travel insurance covered the extra nights in the hotel and all our food claims - even without receipts, but not the extra days of rental car hire. However we bought the insurance before the troubles.

    Troubles in Noumea

Thanks. Nobody was across from me on the herc so I had plenty of leg room. And the crew gave me a second sandwich and biscuits. I suspect that's about as good as it gets. :)

    Troubles in Noumea

Thank you. Yes, home. First stop was the coffee club at arrivals. Unfortunately, upon entering the terminal we were all shepherded straight into passport control, no duty free. Many people disappointed. Various estimates have shown that at least 80-odd people are scattered around New Caledonia...
