Emirates restricts first class awards to elite members only

@AFF Editor Could you also try to find out whether same-day upgrades to First using points will still be available to non-Skywards elite members?

    Gym in an airport?!

I would welcome a gym at an airport, especially if I had a long layover. But no shower afterwards? Ewww!

VA562 misses Sydney curfew but lines up for approach anyway

Yeah, MEL is so fantastic that it doesn't even have a rail line to the airport! (In fairness, though, it has the cheapest airport parking in the country... and at least you can walk between the terminals).

VA562 misses Sydney curfew but lines up for approach anyway

Having lived in Leichhardt for a couple of years, I have no problems with the curfew, at least to the north of the airport. Yes, noise insulation helped, but all it took was a hot summer night requiring opening the window, and it was too noisy to sleep.

Article: The “Lounge Within a Lounge” Concept

I love the idea of separate lounges/areas where the more premium customers get an elevated experience -- which, to me, means more space and, as @ThePointyEnd pointed out (no pun intended!) above, peace and quiet. I don't care about the champagne or a la carte dining: but when the lounge is...

30% bonus when converting selected hotel points to Velocity until 6/6/25

Almost certainly not worth it for most people. I value Accor points at 3c each (according to @aikman above they're currently worth 3.5c/point). If you're using $70.48 of Accor points to get 2600 Velocity points, that values the Velocity points at 2.71c each. Unless you're using the points for...

    Paris boutique tours

I know I'm weird, and this isn't for everyone, but I loved my time at the Mundolingua: the Museum of Language. It has everything from a genuine Enigma Machine to endless interactive displays about every aspect of language and linguistics. Like I said, I'm weird. But if you're a museum junkie...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

The easiest way to work it out is simply that if it earns points, it earns SCs. If it doesn't earn points, it won't earn SCs either.

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

It's easy enough to work out. Take this Choice fare between Melbourne and Perth. It's $393.99 including GST. If you divide that by 12 and round up (as Virgin does) that comes to 33 SCs, which is exactly how much VA will give. So unless I'm missing something the SCs given are based on the...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Complicated? Normally $12=1 Status Credit. Double SC’s: $12= 2 Status Credits (ie. $6= 1 Status Credit). Triple SC’s: $12= 3 Status Credits (ie. $4= 1 Status Credit). “Outright stupid”? “Nonsense”? “Ugly”? Really? If you can understand mathematics at about Year 4 level, it’s none of the above.

Wait in hope for a double- or triple- Status Credit promotion. I would be moderately surprised if there weren't one at some stage.

Anyone had luck booking 90K J Savers to Europe next summer?

I think it's been pretty much established that there's generally great availability on Qatar 360 days out. Except for the northern Summer!

Anyone had luck booking 90K J Savers to Europe next summer?

There's always plenty of "off peak" availability for April but the issue is the (northern) Summer. For the past two years, Qatar has made (almost) no off peak awards available betweeen about June and September. Of course, that doesn't mean QR will do the same thing for 2026, and there's always...

How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Accor welcome drinks are really inconsistent. I've been offered spirits at an Ibis (while Silver), and only house wine, beer or soft drink at a Sofitel (while Gold). In terms of welcome drinks the most generous place I've been to recently is the Queenstown MGallery St Moritz, where they offered...

    Is anyone else using ChatGPT?

I've certainly used ChatGPT to help give me inspiration/ideas. I like the way that itineraries can be totally customised: you can put in where you're staying, how long you're there for, how you want to get around, what your personal interests are, how active (or not) you would like to be, and so...
