I got dropped to Gold about 200 SCs short - which I usually easily rack up with a trip to Europe - but there wasn't a lot of good opportunity to do that last year :/

It gets better - the return flight via Melb is over $330 cheaper as a 2 leg so just no showing for the MEL-SYD leg is actually incentivised... :/

It's the same flight though. The only difference is an extra flight before it. If I take a seat I'd still be displacing a MEL passenger on the international as well as a SYD-MEL passenger and the airline makes less money.
