Melbourne to Vienna (via South Africa, Namibia & India)

From my experience, I'd say you've been unlucky with the intensity of the hassling, the rideshare debacle and the AI experience, @Mattg.

Back to pork knuckle for you, mate... 😜

Suggestions for a travel destination for September?

For what it's worth, I found Morocco underwhelming. Interesting enough but ultimately a bit drab and certainly not as exotic as the images would have people believe. I was there travelling independently by car with a friend's two 20-something kids. We covered a lot of territory and the three...

Suggestions for a travel destination for September?

What about Namibia? Easy to get there with QF to JNB and BA(Comair) from there. Very easy to travel independently, especially if you like driving in the countryside. Very safe (Namibia has not had apartheid). It's benign, but different enough to be a whole 'wow' experience without being too...

Suggestions for a travel destination for September?

Frankly, I would throw the first time traveller in at the deep end with something like your typical places - but don't go back to places that you have already been to as that will take away the magic for both of you. This is all especially assuming that you are considering the SO for a possible...

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

And? Were any faulty? 😜 BTW, that Ministry of Clouds was given 95 points by Halliday - err, if that means anything 😜. However, it breached the JohnM wow-factor threshold. :)

This was different. I like different...* *Except when @Daver6 tries to assassinate me with faulty wine. 🤢🤬 :p

Question Has anyone been impacted by the Coronavirus? Will travel insurance cover the costs if we wanted to cancel? Especially if the flights are with points.

One of the beauties of award flights (at least with QF) is that they are fully refundable without a reason being required. The only penalty is the 6K points. Try to do that for a discounted whY fare...

So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I also think it's interesting that, given most people are right-handed, that we in the RHD car parts of the world are now essentially on the wrong side of history with so many touch screen controls. Not impossible to work, but not as fully fluid as they would be in LHD vehicles, I think. I...

So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Thanks, @33kft, that is really informative from an actual user. Philip King reviewed the Tesla 3 Performance AWD in today's Oz. No disrespect to him, but he simply did not capture the practicalities and draw out the comparatives with ICE vehicles in the way that you have.

    Ask The Pilot

It's Friday, so that means the Aviation section in the Oz. It also means Byron Bailey commentating. Reading the online reader comments show, particularly today, a polarisation between those who regard Bailey as a guru and those who criticise what he said. Any comments on his article, pilots...

Argus car hire - not cheapest

I've used Argus quite widely (N America, S America, Europe, IIRC even southern Africa) over a long period and generally found them to be the least expensive - even when I check the rental car companies. I do tend to book a very long way ahead, which may help.

"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

You cannot fly between HAV and LOTFAP at all (award or paid) as a tourist. It's part of the blockade of anything commercial. So, if you manage to get into HAV on IB, you'll also need to get out on IB if you want to avoid buying separate tickets. You may be better looking to get to CUN (or...
