Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Worst case scenario we can go to the US and get my son vaccinated there I suppose. Or maybe the U.K. will change its stance. JCVI (atagi equivalent) have been very cautious though - and probably rightly so.

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I hope so. 7 days of home quarantine is a lot in the context of a 2-2.5week trip home. Will keep everything crossed!

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

As a U.K. resident Aussie citizen with kids this is becoming tricky. 12-16yos with 1 dose (2 not permitted in the U.K. unless CV) already have to factor in 7 days quarantine which is tough if you want to come other than in aus winter (school breaks are 2-3 weeks over Christmas and Easter). I...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I live in the U.K. & am in the US at the moment (travelled a couple of days ago) - was not asked about my vaccination status at the US border, I showed my hard copy NHS covid pass on check in at Heathrow and that was it. The required PCR test had to be linked to the passport I was travelling on...

    Australian state border restrictions

1-5 year olds can definitely have PCRs, my kids here in london have them every couple of weeks as need them every time they have a sniffle and need to go to school. They get used to them super quickly. Domestic testing is a really bizarre idea though given the lack of true border...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Not good for those of us who live abroad and ineligible for Medicare. As per usual they have forgotten about expat Aussies. Lots of chatter on the expat forums about this.

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Strongly disagree with this. If you are resident (whether temporary or permanent, ie not a tourist) everyone should be treated equally.

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Lots of people don’t want to get back. the U.K. isn’t using a tech solution though. You show your covid pass to the border force, I don’t think they verify it against an electronic register (at least no one ever has for me). And Americans just have hard copy cards. At the end of the day the...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Well no not the same because you have lots of people who are trapped inside and want to get out of Oz. I agree that MIQ is very suboptimal - but australia is still the only country with a travel ban. And a new variant is absolutely no reason not to open up now (once vax rates are high enough)...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

It’s a bit of a sleight of hand - spinning NSW returning to the pre delta caps as some kind of open border. It was impossible to get on a flight to aus from london pre delta for less than about £4K per economy seat, which is fine if you have £4K but most dont and of course zero tourists will pay...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

When people say australia is the only place in the world they are usually referring to it in the context of banning citizens and PRs from leaving/returning. To my knowledge most of Asia hasn’t done that eg you can get back into singapore, HK tho you have to quarantine - caps aren’t a problem...

What will the Northern winter 2021-22 be like?

That AFR article is right - the sentiment here in London is that it’s very much that it’s time to get on with it & we will all get covid eventually now. Your choice if you want it to be mild, in which case get vaxxed, or roll the dice - in which case stay unvaxxed . All the testing around travel...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Correct, flights are flying empty. But airlines are also cancelling flights to optimise yield within the caps - I think ANA cancelled a bunch yesterday for example. I query why they would do that if on Oct 17 (which is c 3 weeks away) those capacity restrictions are released. There has clearly...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

They will still be constrained by quarantine spaces though? Or will that flip to home quarantine at same time? I am skeptical - right now there is not a single seat on a commercial flight to be had from London to Australia any time before feb 2022. And yesterday they released 3 DFAT flights for...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

There are tens of thousands of aussies in the U.K. waiting to come home to see family (me included). however I don’t see how the U.K. can be anything but medium/high risk from Australia’s perspective. We had 40k cases yesterday - people will go mad about that. And if it’s still 2 weeks home...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

A friend of mine flew out via SIN last week, she said the transit area is just a part of the terminal theyve sort of roped off. Lounge was just a separate bit. Not as good as the usual SIA experience but all very doable and the usual attentive Singaporean service.

    Australian state border restrictions

We ignored the U.K. christmas restrictions for this reason and so did almost everyone else we knew who was able. We tested and isolated before meeting but there was no way we were leaving elderly relatives to themselves on Christmas Day.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

AZ may well end up being a better vaccine as it seems it lasts longer. Saying Pfizer is the better vaxx really just isn’t true. having said that, I tend to agree that the most pragmatic thing is to open up all vaccines to all (approved) age groups. Eye on the prize, there’s been too much focus...

Some detail on the SA home quarantine pilot in here. It sounds pretty..:stressful. Australia Traded Away Too Much Liberty Haven’t seen these comments reported anywhere else either.

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

SQ have def been operating late night services out of aus capitals - my sister in law flew out from melbourne on SQ on an 1130pm service this week. I imagine they’d just shift the flight time by an hour if it was a 2359 end time. Keep the faith!
