Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Yes that seems pretty short sighted And as an addendum to my last post and to be fair I can understand the hesitance of regional VIC but in reality rather than what ifs, we really need to look at the experience of other jurisdictions who opened up including NSW and the UK (who incidentally now...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Positivity rate isn't just a factor of how many tests, it is also how you target those tests. NSW at the peak was mandating testing for a bunch of workers when asymptomatic. I just don't think they are comparable variables unless VIC were to do the same. But more than that, it really doesn't...

Up to 50 SCs for shopping at the Qantas Store

A lot of people have lost half of their status year of flying. Right now there are very few people who could fly intl... Yes, this is changing for some states soon but that is still 6 months lost for those of us with Jul anniversary not covered by the latest statuskeeper. So it's effectively an...

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Well, we've finally caught up with the big league on at least one metric, and not far off on another. Australia is now on par with the UK's first dose ratio, and only a couple of percent off from being mid-pack of the North American and European countries that we've been playing catch up to...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Geez the poor people who test negative are missing out 🤣

Up to 50 SCs for shopping at the Qantas Store

The other variable to think about here is that a lot of people have inflated points balances at the moment. As hard as it is to part with points at the conversion rate in the store, if you are points rich the SCs might just help to tip it back into a less regretful conversion of points to money...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Poor Novax Djocovid. I'm not sure anti-vax is a stance that will advance the career of people who travel globally for tournaments, can't see this being only a single jurisdictional issue. Getting a passport is optional too but it would be equally disruptive to one's career to not do so.

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I won't pretend to be an expert on this but I happened to tune in to a discussion on ABC 774 recently where they were discussing the merits of rapid antigen testing for school children at home and they said something along the lines of it being fairly common to get false negatives with the rapid...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I'm not sure why it should end up being such an issue? Sure a unified system would be nice but we haven't even achieved that for passports and they have been around a long time. Some countries might not co-operate because their standard and only their standard is sufficient, but we're also...

50 SC for signing up to Qantas Health Insurance

Interesting, I honestly don't know, but you may be in luck. I'd check if there's a specific definition for the provider you're covered by, but Medibank Private defines Policy Holder this way...

50 SC for signing up to Qantas Health Insurance

I believe so, you'd very quickly exclude yourself as it does ask this during the quote process, and even if you were to state that you were not insured by an excluded provider, they'd have your customer details and I suspect it would get flagged pretty quickly.

50 SC for signing up to Qantas Health Insurance

I think there's a lot of confusion around how holding two policies might affect you, and I admit I don't know it all, but I particpated in an earlier version of this promo and I found it pretty straightforward as long as you stick to a few fundamentals: In my case, I signed up to the minimal...

    New Amex statement credits

Not at all, however two posts preceding mine either had communications from AMEX suggesting it was a travel credit replacement or had confirmed that it had resulted in a loss of TC in one instance, so it is still somewhat shambolic communications from AMEX but perhaps not the same rule for all...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I wonder if the duty free shops will start selling 14 day sustinance packages.. They could fill a samsonite case with 14 bottles of wine, a few jumbo toblerones, mixed nuts, shortbread and werther's originals.

    New Amex statement credits

This probably should have gone out before the offer appeared for all cardholders, it sounds like people have been unwittingly trading their travel credit for statement credits? It's unlikely many will be upset given the lack of travel opportunities around but you'd think it would be a bit more...

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

The comment was made in the context of us all understanding well how late we started to ramp up vaccination and the ground that we've made up in the meantime. If you need a disclaimer before every post rather than the context of 300 odd pages of discussion, so be it. I am certainly not a...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I don't think anyone wants a lockdown Premier now that we have vaccine supply readily available. Hope that category is gone for good soon. Don't think the shut ins are going away just yet, though.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I don't think the data suggests that at all. We are ~10% percent off the pack for first dose when compared to those countries. Second dose we are further off (~25%) but the fact is you can see via the slider that we have made significant ground with our pace and we will fill that gap shortly if...
